Hello all,

I have something I found as I was going through my late grandfather's possessions. As a back story, he was the lead investigator from the O.P.P. on Barilko's case and his team found the plane crash. I have a stack of origonal photos of the crash and a letter confirming the authenticity of them. What, where or who could I go to about the value of these? I'm on the fence about keeping them as they are part of my family history, but I really don't collect anything.

Thanks in advance.

Wouldn’t that be considered evidence if it is property of the OPP?

Don't profit off of a tragedy.

I dont agree with this in a historical context. So should we no longer sell army uniforms, helmets, guns, memorabilia, etc, etc? How about religious items? medieval weapons? Should publishers not sell mein kampf?

I would say this isn’t cruel or predatory in terms of ‘profiting off a tragedy,’ I would say it is now within a historical context. Just don’t ask me where that cutoff is exactly.

Who would want them anyway? Why? Would you consider these tragic photos sports memorabilia? I sure wouldn't.

Who would want them anyway?

Speaking as a historian, one of us would.

Research purposes if one is writing on a topic to which they relate (ie. sports history, Ontario history, northern Ontario history, Ontario policing history, aviation history in Ontario, etc.).

Would you consider these tragic photos sports memorabilia?

Nope, primary sources.

Andy Warhol's "Death and Disaster" series was done circa 1962. Both Barliko and yourself are a tad late.

Edit - I forgot that Barilko died in 1951. This would have been perfect for Warhol.

If this is a serious thread then you need to post pics to generate interest, and prove authenticity.

Umm. There is no mention of the O.P.P. in Barilko's search or the actual discovery of the plane crash site.

You just found that this year... that's it Leafs are winning the cup... let's go.

In all seriousness... if it's legit tough call. Really cool if true, hockey hall of fame? Maybe not all of them but maybe to add to the story.

Bit of a fan. Hence the profile pic.

Again if this is true...
