Thanks for being the voice of reason.

Seriously, who cares about a missed national anthem or a controversial 10 min penalty. We had a situation at this world cup where a player could have been seriously injured by another player on purpose. He basically got away with it, and that's probably part of the reason why many people already have forgotten.

That's a true fiasco for sportsmanship and for ice hokey in general.

i agree on the Aho call but the way i saw it, it looks like Kukkonen skates to the offical during a tv time out to argue the call. Without knowing what is said cause there is no audio on it, you are risking it especially in international hockey to confront the refs like that

Actually Kukkonen is the captain, and there is a rule that Captains are the ones who can argue about calls with refs. I have no idea how the ref can be so bad he starts swearing f-words and then even calls 10min for Kukkoen. I don't wonder why he only had 60 games in NHL as lines man. Many refs make long careers there.

Finland, the refs and the ice.

I hate complaining about refs in general but this level is sad, not good for the game of hockey. :-(

Finland have a chance proving me wrong in the quarter finals though.

What do you think is the biggest fiasco of this tournament yet? I have three (four) candidates:

a) The ice. It has been a current issue where the arena is too hot and the games have to be delayed during intermission. The organizers blame "suspected sabotage" and have kept arenas lit during team entries, to spot the supposed hockey haters that manage to screw up an entire ice with some unknown material. Yeah, how about just admitting playing hockey in Köln in the middle of may isn't smart enough?

b) The organization. In the game between Sweden and Slovakia, the Swedish team were told to stay in the lockerroom because of a) ice conditions. When they were cleared to go, they received a 2 minute penalty by the refs for delay of game(!), because they were late(!). The refs then refused to make a call and confirm the reason why Sweden was late (the tournament organizers told them!). I have never seen this happen in my entire life. So Sweden had another penalty because of total tournament incompetence.

c) The refs. Who the hell are these guys and where did they find these bunches of morons? They're not even close enough to being good enough at this level. NHL refs are struggling well enough, I claimed IIHF refs and NHL refs are just as bad, but no. IIHF refs are a ****ing joke.

D) All of the above.

E) Other of your specification.

The teams are good, but the rest? Holy hell what a Donald Duck tournament.

I didn't hear that, but if that's true, that is incredible.

wait there are people who are sabotaging the arenas??
No, but the organizers claim this must be the reason for the bad ice. Not the temperature inside and outside of the arena.
I didn't hear that, but if that's true, that is incredible.
It is incredible. So during the second intermission, the Swedish team was obviously back to the rink very early, so early that Lundqvist and a few of the guys on the team had to run back because they were about to be ran over by the zamboni.

Imagine the headlines on that one: "Half the Swedish team injured by exiting zamboni."

Lets just agree, that from now on every WCH should be held in Czech Republic :sarcasm: ... Great position (short trip for most europeans), atmosphere at the games guaranteed, ice quality may depend on outside temperature a bit, but it will never be terrible. Fanzones and (cheap) beer are a must, you don't need to worry about "sabotage" or even Islamists blowing up, and we will never mistake Slovenia and Slovakia...
All problems except for the refs solved, as for the refs I'm opened to suggestions. :)

And well, the referee insulting Lasse Kukkonen in the match vs Canada was also born in Canada. A Canadian refereeing a match by Canada... Yeah, okay. Nice organizing.

The claims of sabotage are actually kind of funny.

I don't think, that the ice is the / one of the biggest fails, but the sabotage claims are ... what can I say? It's simply ridiculous. Whatever the reason is (temperature, zamboni operating, water), they should tell it, like it is.

But it's cologne. *duck*

But I think the atmosphere is great most of the time and bad reffing usually is not systematically to any teams favour, so I try to ignore it ;)

Nope, Mark Lemelin is an American. In this tournament under an Austrian flag since he now officiates in the Austrian league.

Canadian refs reffing Canadian players was never an issue in the Olympics, though, or in the World Cups. But they were all active NHL refs.

the ice is very hard to maintain in these indoor multipurpose arenas as i understand it..ofcourse it needs to be better but the amount of spectators at this wc alone is a huge success..

So i think the positives outweight the negatives and hopefully denmark can learn from this for next years wc which will also be in 2 multipurpose arenas that doesnt normally house a hockey game.

Think the organizers will view this wc as a success

Swiss disallowed goal. Simple.

Disgusting refereeing ruining what would have otherwise been an exciting finish.

What the **** would a Canadian ref know about hockey anyway?

The sad thing about the refs is that they are way better than the nhl playoffs refs.

The ice is bad and the entire arena is too hot.
On May 16 they had 3 games in there, +28 outside, and over 50k people combined over the day.

It's only been serving the purpose of ice hockey for a while now. They setup the IIHF surface and it's the only event in there.

And to both of you I disagree regarding "too hot in May" and "hard to maintain". I've been in Staples Center and my feet were getting cold. We have the technology it's just a matter of engineering knowledge, experience and $$$. It's unacceptable. It's too hot in there for DEL games in the winter as well.
