sweden have a weak team to be that much lower then usa and finland?
There's probably a historical bias in there as well. USA and Finland have demonstrated they can win this thing. Sweden still with only two championships dating back to the 70's. Considering how good they are at this game and how few top nations there are in hockey, it's honestly one of the most puzzling championship droughts in all of sport.

A million things can happen, of course, but, at home, in small packed rinks with thousands of fans screaming their lungs out, with all the talent they have in 2023, this is Canada's tournament to lose.

I agree. I think the US could cause a big headache. Only thing that can stop Canada is teenage nerves and a shaky goalie performance though. I think they'll run through their group quite easily with Sweden being the only close game.

Though I understand why they're not here, there is no question that the tournament is worse off for not having them. Having three powerhouse teams in one group makes for a QF where we are guaranteed that a "big 5" team goes down. I am also saddened by not being to see Michkov at this tournament.

Oh, and this won't apply to everyone, but for us guys doing the WJC pools, the depth of player selection is vastly limited. In my pool someone just drafted an Austrian for God's sake!

I just hope we see them by 2025.
