Kessler is a Selke winning number 2 centre.
I think at his best Kessler was a Selke winner, and contributed more to his team’s winning than Spezza did at his best. And Spezza was an elite offensive 1C.

Was Spezza ever an elite number one centre? I’d say he was a good player, but I’m not thinking he was elite. Imo most GM’s would prefer peak Kessler in their lineup to peak Spezza.
Yes did you even watch the Senators during the Pizza Line era? He was absolutely an elite #1C, he was scoring 90 points at 22 years old.I think at his best Kessler was a Selke winner, and contributed more to his team’s winning than Spezza did at his best.

Spezza was 100% an elite 1C when he broke into the league.
Maybe semantics, but no he really wasn't. His first pro season, he split time between Binghamton and Ottawa, filling in for injuries. Season two, he was very good but still not exactly elite with 55 points.
It wasn't until returning to the Senators after spending an entire season in the AHL (due to lockout) in 2005/6 that Spezza really exploded. That was his draft +5 season.
Hmm, pretty lopsided. Maybe I should've done one for peak.
He was also a ppg for like the first decade of his career.269 points in 211 games in a three year stretch. A 105 point pace.
