Think about it - Doughty, Greene and Voynov are right-handed shots. Voynov/Scuderi and Doughty/Muzzin is pretty much set. That leaves Greene/Regehr for might be one of the most intimidating defense pairings in the league.

Mmmm, I dunno about that.
Doughty and Muzzin work well together but both of them are very offensive, and Green/Regehr would be physical but slow and low on O.
I bet we mix them up and go with Doughty/Greene and Muzzin/Regehr to spread around the offense and physicality a bit more evenly.

So do you think Muzzin goes to the 3rd pair or healthy scratch? Who plays top pair with Doughty? I really don't think Voynov and Scuderi are split up.

Doughty - Regehr/Greene/Martinez/Ellerby
Voynov - Scuderi
Regehr/Greene/Muzzin/Martinez/Ellerby

Personally I like Muzzin better than the other choices to stay with Doughty.

I don't think we should keep Muzzin with Doughty, partnering Doughty alongside a stay at home defensemen will give him more offensive chances.

Regehr - Doughty
Scuderi - Voynov
Muzzin - Ellerby/Greene

I know people criticize Regehr for being slow, but Doughty's speed more than makes up for it, if need be.

Scuderi/Voynov seems to be a set pairing; they are learning to communicate better with each other, and there's no sense screwing that up.

If Regehr is as slow as everyone claims he is, why would we want to put him on the top pair with Doughty? I get the whole Doughty needs a stay at home d with him so he can work in his offense but if he's got a slow liability back there with him, is it any better than a quicker rookie who has enough speed to make up for some of his own mistakes? I'm just thinking that our offense has been doing pretty well all season. Let the forwards focus on offense and let Doughty, who is a special player, pick his spots and chip in occasionally in the big spots like he did in the playoffs.

Look for the future... Muzzin might not be a top paring D now but he is 24 years old. And has at least another few years to grow. Voynov is 23 and is playing like a vet right now. Doughty is 23 years old and is also playing like a vet. The future is bright. Its not set in stone we need to repeat this year. We have plenty of time to win another Cup. Voynov 23, Doughty 23, Kopitar 25, Carter 28, Brown 28, Richards 28, Quick 27 not even in there prime yet. Its actually pretty scary the rest of the league should be ******** bricks for the next 6 years.

Probably this, but you could easily switch Scruderi and Regehr and it works as well. The Kings played almost all of last year with 3 stay at homes with 3 puck movers, so they'll go back to that once eveyone is back.

i think only vv - scuds is set in stone for now

the other two pairings and vv - scuds will possibly be shaken up. Sutter and Stevens will play around with the parts to see what works best, so i dont think anything is certain at this point.

RR will see PK and 3rd line duty i think. he will take on the same kind of minutes that Greener does. he will also be used to help reduce Scuds TOI, to help lessen his load.

i think we see this to start. the coaches will look to solidify the top two pairings and then play with the 3rd pairing to find the best fit.

DD - Muzz
VV - Scuds
RR - AMart - Ellerby - DD44 - Greene

it won't surprise me also to see if Muzz starts to be sat down the stretch. it won't surprise me also to see DD44 in game more often.

right now they have a lot of parts back on D, but not the perfect compliment of parts like they did last season.

That is personally what I would go with. Though imagine Mitchell made it back late first round. Dress 7 and roll with

Doughty - Mitchell
Voynov - Scuderi
Green - Regher
Muzzin

Yikes. I sure as **** wouldn't want to play against that D. I don't care what team I was on.

Nope, Mitchell just got arthroscopic surgery...he's done.

Actually the OP's idea of having the two shutdown guys going in to the playoffs is really nice. Bottom line is the silver lining on having these guys hurt is we just developed 3 young defensemen significantly.
