Russian 2012 team with Kuznetsov, Kucherov, Vasilevski, Grigorenko, Yakupov and Gusev was pretty good to win the gold, but...

If you look at the stats from U20, the best players who miss the gold is Forsberg and Näslund from 93.

They had the big-name players, but were a big mess of a team. No chemistry at all. Vasilevski stood on his head.

Dream Tean 2013 Canada - finished 4th too
RNH, Huberdeau, Scheifle, Strome, Drouin, Reilly, Hamilton, G. Reinhart, MacKinnon, Jenner

though they lost to team USA
John Gibson, Ghost, Seth Jones, Trouba, Galchenyuk, Gaudreau, JT Miller, Trochek, Vesey

Sweden outshot that team 57-17 in the final and 51-23 in the group stage and won both games. I can think of many better teams that didn't win.

Kuznetsov had 9 points in a game vs Latvia, and didn't have a point in the first period.

Vasilevsky didn't play in the GMG, it was Makarov. Sweden outshot Russia 57-17 in that game

Really interesting question. For me it's an easy answer, though. The 1993 Sweden team that featured Forsbeg and Naslund. Their only loss was to Canada and they would massively outshoot Canada in that game. Their overall goal differential was an insane 53-15 that year.

As a team, yea, they sucked so hard I really don't know why. But I meant star power of this roster atm. Yakupov and Grigo are pretty much big time busts though...

2004 WJC Team Canada deserves to be mentioned. Crosby, Carter, Getzlaf, Burns (as a forward), Richards, Seabrook, Phaneuf, etc.

Basically the majority of the core of the team that won Gold the next year in Grand Forks.

Had a 3-1 lead in the 3rd against the USA and then dumb **** happened, capped off by the Fleury play.
