So I was out of country and watching a live stream of the wings and leafs game. But it was the wings feed and I started to really like listening to their play by play team.

At first it was strange because I’m used to different voices but in a 2-3 periods I learned a lot of little anecdotes and stories about the wings and their players. It was HHOF night so there was cool Datsyuk stories as well.

One was how Datsyuk would be in the gym right after the games and how powerful his legs were.

I think you guys have a great crew to listen to in Detroit. Does your fan base like them overall?

What other teams have really good play by play teams that standout ?

As a Penguins fan I actually quite like the Capitals broadcast crew. Their play-by-play guy seems to be excited to call games and even has a bit of an intensity when calling opponents' goals.

I really like it when commentators just seem to enjoy calling the game and don't turn into a church mouse when the opponent scores.

As a Rangers fan I'll second this about Detroit, especially since we've played them 3x already. Very likable broadcast duo that's a bit of a throwback to the previous era.

Joe B and Locker are the best, very underrated aspect of the success the Caps have had in becoming so popular in DC

Love the Caps guys. They are one of my favorite teams as well along with the Rangers and Hurricanes. I also like Detroit's team, mostly because of Redmond on color and I like Brickley on color for the Bruins too.

Caps = best
Avs = worst

They're really polar opposites in how they call games. Caps crew make the game more exciting and lack bias in how they call games, but I've noticed that completely changes when Wilson is involved.

Avs crew is just terrible in general. Unprofessional when the other team scores or is winning and give almost no commentary on the other teams playstyle, players or how they're doing on the season.

The Sharks used to be great.

But now, after Randy got the Tahoe Blue Vodka sponsorship I think he's very likely half-drunk during games and says some very goofy things sometimes.

We used to have Cuthbert and Ferraro.

Miller and Noodles/Johnson are who we have now, and they're pretty good actually.

The best, by far, is on french TSN (RDS) in Québec

Pierre Houde is 100% the GOAT of his profession

The day he'll retire will probably be the last time I'll watch french television. He's really, really good

His color commentator is Marc Denis, who is also solid, but Pierre Houde is untouchable
Good call. Not many will be able to appreciate it but he's about as iconic as you can get. Maybe it's my memories of watching the Nordiques and Habs in the 80's but he has such a throwback voice. It's like how prime Harry Neale harkened back to the Foster Hewitt days. Houde does the same thing, takes you back to a different era.

No, I'm not Foster Hewitt old but yeah, I'm Nords on TQS old...

An ex girlfriend once said to me “why does it sound like the Caps’ announcers are flirting with each other” and since then I haven’t been able to un-hear it

idiosyncratic banter aside they do a great job of breaking down replays, and are knowledgeable about other teams’ players and quick to praise opponents when the situation calls for it.

I really like John Forslund, even though his "that's hockey baby" and "hey hey what do you say" stuff gets a bit old, but even with that, I think he has a really nice rhythm and he's easy to follow. He's my favorite.

Seems to be more of a journeyman, though, who seems to do a different team every year. Now Prime Monday Night Hockey for Amazon, I believe.
