Being born in 1995, I have never had the privilege to be able to watch an Oilers playoff game in a bar/pub. Hoping the old heads can give us youngins and old fans alike some tips and recommendations on good spots!

Cheers:cheers:

Everything is so different from 2006. Hudson's on Whyte was definitely the place to be then, but I think that was their only location.
As SullivanT mentioned, there should be plenty of good spots. I think anything in downtown will be especially good with the arena now central.

Any suggestions on a good place on the south side for the game Saturday night? Somewhere around South Common or Windermere?

I've got a sitter for the game Saturday night, so my wife and I want to go out to someplace with big screens and a good atmosphere!

I've been going to Hudson's in South Common for most of the games and it's been a fantastic time, Brewhouse on Ellerslie and 91st would be a good option in the south side as well but imo Hudson's has better specials and a great atmosphere for Oiler games.

Thanks. Aren't the screens small in Hudsons though? I haven't been there for a couple years, I don't go out to pubs/bars much anymore at all.

There is a newer BP's on Ellerslie as well that has a huge screen but not sure on the crowd.

I was also considering The Canadian Brewhouse on Ellerslie.

They have two projectors at Hudsons that they play the games on but besides that you're relegated to the smaller screens, if you get a decent spot where the projectors are though it provides a good size.

Nice. Decent picture and volume? Maybe I will stop by after work and take a look. I imagine tables will go fast on a Saturday night as well!

I haven't been to the lounge in the new Rex Room in south common. I wonder how it is there.

I've heard the Rec Room (South Common) is pretty awesome and I think they have the game on a giant screen. Not sure how hard it is to get a seat and I haven't been myself, but from what I heard, it's worth looking into.

The picture quality is HD on one of the projectors but the other one is likely an older projector and as such the quality is a minor downgrade, as for volume they have the sound turned up as soon as the game is on and it's pretty loud which imo helps me get in the atmosphere of the game more. Can't speak for the Rec Room as I haven't been there either but I've heard good things. Tables have been going fast during weekday games at Hudsons, I'd recommend calling ahead and reserving as I've had to get there pretty early the past few times to get a decent seat (not that I mind, just watched MTL/NYR or whatever other games were on).

So far I have been to Beercade and the Pint, both on Whyte, both were electic. The bar was acting as if it was at the game, chanting "Go oilers Go", then every one smacks on the tables. I would recommend Whtye for sure, it was the place in 2006. The only downside, and it could be big, is they have a big police presence now (not sure you know the history of what happened in 2006). That has it ups and downs. I mean clearly they are there for a reason, I don't want to take from that. But it also kills a bit of the exitment too. So take it for what you want, I think Whyte is the place to watch. Best bars on Whyte. Beercade, The Pint, Hudsons, MKT, Billards Club.

I agree with the sentiment that anywhere is a good place.

Hell, I went to the Brewhouse in Camrose on a Wednesday for game 1 and people were going crazy and starting chants and stuff.

I hadn't considered Whyte but I might be worth it to be part of the atmosphere AFTER the game (if we win). My wife and I are almost 40 though so not looking for anything too rowdy...

It won't get too rowdy. Too many cops. But still best place to feel apart of the crowd other than being at Rogers

One thing I forgot to mention is my wife has a gluten allergy so a gluten friendly menu and cider on tap would be ideal.

It is pretty great! Although you do have to reserve to get a seat or show up early to get one of the free tables. For the first playoff game, I got there at about 6:45 and ended up getting the last table in front of the crazy big screens above the bar (game started at 8). Food sucks though.

So do I, best place for you is MKT on Whyte. They have gluten friendly menu and about 5 different gluten free beers. They have a gluten free beer on tap, Stone IPA, which is awesome. Ciders too.

Beercade also has gluten free burgers, Bud on tap (pretty close to gluten free) and ciders. ps. I guess every one has Bud on tap lol.

I've gone to High Run club pretty decent atmosphere, not too loud. Probably cause its out of the way and not as popular as the Hudsons Brewhouse's etc.

I ended up at Hudsons in South Common and it was great. Everyone had the same idea though (Saturday night game and all...) so it was hard to get a table even though we arrived almost 2 hours early (we did end up getting one of the last ones). They also have $5 house pints and 1/2 price wings from half an hour before puck drop till the end of the game and $5 shooter specials when the Oilers score so that was a bonus!

What a game, the third period was TENSE!!!

Duck hunting season!
