Pretty simple question for everyone - what are the best Ranger bars in NYC?

"Best" can mean a one of, or a combo of a few things:

(1) On Ranger game-nights, it's a priority television event
(2) It's a place where people frequent to watch games
(3) It's a good pre-game Ranger bar
(4) It's a great hockey bar and Ranger fans frequent it

I live in SoHo, so I suppose I'm personally asking about anywhere in Manhattan, but if there are places in Brooklyn or Hoboken that really standout those are solid, "good to knows" as I have a lot of friends in those neighborhoods.

LGR!

The one time I went to Hudson Station, it was great.

It was 2017, during the series with the Sens, when Skjei scored two goals and Pageau scored in 2OT.

Super fun time/atmosphere, despite the outcome.

Outside of that, I got nothing for ya in the city. My liquor cabinet/kitchen is the best Rangers bar that I know of that serves food/drinks, but we're limited capacity of 2 (my cat and I; wife doesn't count because of her working hours)

Stouts awesome. Only problem is its such a rangers bar on game nights thats its tough to eat before the game unless ur super early. Huge bar and huge beer list. Hundreds of rangers fans and its a block from msg. Went there before game just before covid and we cudnt eat before so we just drank...went back in after the game for more beers and food.

We went to a place called the Flying Puck...was 3-4 years back when we were in the Big Apple..very friendly crowd at the time and we watched the Rangers and the Habs that night . Maybe it is no longer in operation ?

Pre COVID, Stout was amazing to go to as others have said. This past season with limitations, the menu was reduced and so was the beer list. I am hopeful that with more things being open and able to get their beer selections back and menu up to where it was.

Not a fan of Mustang Harry's. I don’t see the allure and is pricy to me even before COVID.

Jack Doyle's is always good. Good food and tons of room. Have watched many games there, especially from 2014 to 2017.

The rooftop spots near MSG are decent, not great but get the job done if you are pressed for time before a game.

Nothing was like the chug and run at Rose's Pizza in Penn Station before a game, but alas the renovations in Penn have killed that tradition. We've all done it.

Over the past 3 years, the place that I go to is Smithfield Hall. It's not a Rangers bar, it is a soccer bar, but the food is amazing, the prices are reasonable and the overall vibe is great. I've done football sundays there as well. Gotten to know the bartenders and they will turn games on and depending on what else is happening will turn on the broadcast audio on whichever side of the bar you are on. Went there for the MTL comeback right before COVID. Was there for game 6 Tampa vs Islanders and the place is close to the same.

It's a little further away than the others (on 25th between 6th and 7th) but it's less crowded than other spots closer to MSG since we have lost numerous bars in the area.

Hudson station is a fantastic spot if you're looking just to drink beer as they have the best pre game/happy hour specials in the area. The big knock on them is the food is average at best and the location is a bit of walk from MSG.

Stout has a great beer selection and overpriced OK food, location is great as its close to MSG.

Tracks from Penn Station is now where Cafe 31 is. By far the best food of any of the bars around MSG and decent prices.

Mustang Harry's also has great food but a pretty weak beer selection by NYC standards. Also a lot of the werido fans go there so if that's your scene by all means.

For pre-post home games, just about every bar around MSG will get a Rangers crowd. If you are talking about fans showing up to watch a home or road game, different story. If you are looking to do that, you are better off looking into some meet-up groups and those will be based on where the people live for the most part.

I used to like a place on 3rd Ave in the high-20s named Van Diemens that showed a lot of hockey, but I believe it closed. Flying Puck is gone. Only place near MSG I ever watched a home game was Jack Doyles, game 5 against Pens in 2015, had a great crowd. Once watched a game at the 40/40 club only because I had a meeting ending around 7 a few doors down, but the Rangers game was not the prime game, did not have sound on.

If you are looking for road games, depends on what is going on at MSG that night. If the Knicks are at home, everything will be Knicks based. If there is a concert, once the pre-concert crowd heads towards arena, you might be able to get a game on.

My favorite bars for pre-game:

Feile (next to Stout). Normally, has a bit of a different menu than your typical bar food. Huge beer selection.

Jack Doyle's, typical bar food, but a little more. Watched England-Italy there. My friend ordered salmon said it was good, I'm not a fish person so had to take his word for it.

Used to like Triple Crown, but feel they have gone down the past few years. They shutdown for a while during covid and did not re-open for this past season. Last time I walked by, it was still closed, but didn't seem like it was permanent.

Molly Wie has pretty good bar food, imo.

I do like Trax for post-game, have never eaten there.

Had Brother Jimmy's once, thought it was terrible.

Have been to others, but not recently or often enough to really evaluate.

edit: Have eaten at Mustang Harry's and Sally's. Off the top of my head, can't remember if either are still open. Never thought it was anything special. Only went because a friend I used to go to games with on occasion really liked it.

Haha, please elaborate. I doubt I fall into this category, but I'm quite curious.

Also, ALL, please keep these coming! We're very excited to have season tickets - look forward to frequenting these very soon.

If you want something quick, inexpensive, and with beer. There is deli on 32nd st (I think, could be 31st). Huge, next to a Jacks Discount store. Has everything, burgers are pretty good, has beer. Can also get sandwiches, chicken, even has an asian station. Has a buffet, but have never eaten the buffet. Does have tables so you can sit and eat.

The facebook/reddit commenters mostly congregate there. Thats the best way to put it.
