Who will be the best goalie at the WJ. I pretty sure it won't be Canada especially when they didn't even chose all the best goalies available. Personally i think Schwarz will be the best.

Short tournaments are all about being mentally sharp and prepared. Whichever goalie gets in the groove will emerge as the best. I wouldn't be shocked at all if it were the Canadian starter, but Montoya, Schwarz and Khudobin are all capable as well.

I take it from that response that you haven't seen the goalies that were invited to camp play much have you.

It will be either Canada's tender or the US (guessing Montoya will start again).

Schwarz has a good chance, however I think he lacks the defensive help in front of him.

I dunno ... the only guys I know are Montoya and Khudobin, and the only one I've seen play is Khudobin.

I hope you're right EPS, this Rask kid, looks like the real deal. I am however a big believer in team Canada's chances, and therefore whoever they decide will be their starter may surprise a few people. Montoya is a very good keeper, however, the team in front of him will not be as good as they were last year and he will have to really steal the show.

Well, I've seen all five goalies mentioned in your post, and to counter your statement, I'd say that Schwarz has looked the most shakey of them all. That being said it's a short tournament and he has the ability to be spectacular.

I've been very impressed by Glass so I'm gonna say that he will be he best (if he gets the chance). He deals well with low shot counts, and always positions himself well. Being that Canada's d is solid, I think that he won't have to face too many rebound opportunities and thus will be solid but unspectacular.

Outside of these five, I think either of the US goalies could step up steal games for their team (obviously Montoya is the guy who's going to get the job).

P.S. Just wondering, who do you think are Canada's best available goalies (since they didn't even chose them)? I think that the two they will end up with are the best available options (Glass and Nasty).

I've never seen him before but never has a 17 year old goalie ever been the best goalie by a 'wide margin' at this tournament. Dipietro, Fleury, Montoya were all good as 17 year olds but never cast shadows on the other goalies.

It will take a miraculous showing to be the standout top goalie. Especially considering the competition he's up against.

DiPietro, Fleury, and Montoya were actually 18 year olds when they played. I just quickly looked through the old Top Goaltender Awards and First All Star Teams, and the only 17 year old I see on the list is Hasek (some of the other European goalies in the 70s and 80s could be as well but its hard to find their ages). I think Rask will probably be in tough to be the best goalie by a wide margin if at all.

He wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, but I think he might actually get the nod as the starter. He definitely won't get cut. Sutter is doing things a little different this year as far as the cuts are concerned. He will be making all the cuts at once, and that day is tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Montoya could get the reputation for being a big game goalie if he wins again this year. He wasn't even supposed to be the American goalie last year -- Jim Howard was. Considering what he did last season as the American's second choice, I'll have to go with Al Montoya.

Never has a european goalie looked that good at 17 years old either... Except Kari of course.

Sportsnet (Lubardias? can't remember who) said Glass as starter and likely Beauchemin as backup. So, I think we can guess that Glass will be one of the two named. But backup is still up in the air. Dubnyk struggled in the last scrimmage according to Sportsnet. I still say next year is Dubnyk's time. This year, he's not ready for this competition. He's a very raw talent.

I personally like Beauchemin's game, but Nastiuk did take the Tigers to the WHL championship last year, so he knows pressure situations.
