Let's try something completely different!

Everyone can post here what they think that the team's best case scenario is for the season. We can try to keep this thread relatively positive. Myself included, a lot of gloom and doom is going on in other threads. Over here we can discuss what can go right for the team in between now and the trade deadline, and how we feel that sets up the team for the near future; counter to the we suck, trade everyone threads.

I will go first:

I think that going into the season the Rangers would have finished 3-5 in the conference. If everyone gets healthy I do think they can still finish as a bottom four seed although I am having a hard time seeing them making it out of the first round as presently constituted. If they make a win now move at the deadline I would make their 1st rounder untouchable but if they can get a good piece why not? Maybe rental Cammalieri makes sense and helps band-aid the top six if you can get him on the cheap. Hopefully the major UFAs are signed by no later than the all star break.

While I don't know if this is what I would call "good enough" it may or may not be a start.

Rangers make a splash for a seguin type of player. Young and up and coming player that will be a lateral move for this year but will make us better for years to come. I hope we get a top 5 pick this year and trade for a young top 6 forward while clearing space

Best case scenario #1 : The boys figure out the system, a minor trade (preferably for a spark plug type of player) is done, and Lundpads finally gets his head on straight. They rebound to finish 2nd in their division, and go on a good playoff run and ultimately bow out to a better team in the 2nd round or ECF.

Best case scenario #2 : Somebody mentioned something similar, but everybody loses patience with the vets, and the start getting sold off, and a deal for a young and explosive talent (like the Seguin trade) happens to ultimately make this team better. The team finishes with a top 10 pick, and picks a very skilled winger to compliment said player. Then pick up some good spare parts over the summer, and reevaluate where the team is at next training camp.

best case scenario #1 make a small trade for a Steve Downie type player.. a player with emotion and then the same effect will happen when the Rangers traded for Avery... LMAO Rangers make the playoffs and play Islanders in the first round...

best case scenerio #2 stay competetive right until the trade deadline, trade Girardi, Boyle and other UFA for some 1st round picks..im sure both Girardi and Boyle can get the Rangers a 1st even if its 20-25 range.. maybe the Rangers can have a year with more than 1 1st round pick, and use that to acquire some young talent by trading it for a young player or using the picks to draft a player and rebuild the proper way with young talent

With 75% of this team without contracts for next season, the best case scenario is Sather steps down/isn't involved in shaping this team going forward.

Sather and his EGO step down.. i have a better chance of winning the lottery.. i think their is a better chance Sather dies as GM of the Rangers before stepping down :help:

Best case scenario is that Sather calls it quits after this season. If that happens, party at my place

Realistically, the best thing that could happen is once we're healthy, the team goes on a roll and completely negates the bad start.

The Rangers have a handful of players signed for next season. Begin the process of rebuilding/retooling the team now and don't wait until July. There's too much work to be done.

Sather "retires" from GM duties to concentrate on the time-consuming job of Team President.

Cablevision sell NYR to some company that actually require a winning product and accountability from the front office.

BEST CASE SCENARIO?

Rangers finish dead last and retain the #1 overall pick.

Sather, Clark and Gorton all get the axe.

To all the posters looking for a Seguin deal, are we all assuming that player is Yakupov, or did you all have someone else in mind? If the front office got the axe who would you put it. My vote would be for John Davidson. Keep it rolling.

And for the record I'm not sure the purge the front office posts were what I intended when I opened this

Realistically, they will probably put a few well placed bandaids on their cuts that require stitches and end up being in the hunt for one of the last 2-3 playoff spots which won't solve anything and will continue to mask the much bigger problems this team/organization has going forward.

From my standpoint, I would much rather see them bottom out and not make the playoffs because that may be the only realistic solution for them in the future.

Best case scenario:

They realize that they are in a perfect storm of misfortune and underperformance at the moment and decide to not make any rash moves, instead waiting for the team to get healthy and on the same page.

As the big underachievers (Lundqvist, Stepan, McDonagh, Girardi, Del Zotto, Zuccarello, Pouliot) begin to play to their potential and our key guys return from injury we go on a roll from November on and challenge Pittsburgh for the division.

We are able to keep this momentum into the playoffs and win the Cup.

I still believe that this team has the potential to go all the way. 100%. The issue is that a lot of our core players are underachieving big time right now. It doesn't matter that Strålman, Richards, Callahan, and Boyle (I'm on the fence whether to include Brassard and Staal in this group) have had fantastic starts because the rest of the team have been playing like ****.

That is my best case scenario.

This team is not built to win the cup right now, and if we make the playoffs it will just be another 1st/2nd round exit.

Begin retooling this team so that they can actually have a chance.

To get to the best case scenario, AV needs to know what he is getting and from who every single night. Torts was fired on the basis of style of play, and AV was hired based on that, so I don't blame him for making his changes. But a big problem that he has now is that guys don't show up every game, and it spreads through the team. That is what needs to be curtailed so AV doesn't have to motivate his guys before every game.

This means that there needs to be an infusion of players that bring a consistent performance to their respective roles.

AV needs to line up the sticks with his high percentage players during their shifts so they don't have to play the puck with their backs turned. This will make a slow team a wee bit faster.

Here is how I map out the forward lines into roles.

Puck Possession Primary Scoring Unit
Puck Possession Secondary Scoring Unit + Top Checking Line
High Percentage Secondary Checking Line with Size
High Percentage Energy Unit with Size and Toughness

Richards-Brassard-Nash
Hagelin-Stepan (FO) -Callahan
LH Size Speed- Two Way Center (FO/PK) - RH Utility player
LH Tough guy w. Size Speed - Responsible 4th Line Center (FO/PK) - RH Tough Guy

Bottom Six Injury Replacement
Top Six Injury Replacement

I would not try and acquire top six threat as the cost would be very high, and risky for a what if run at this stage. First thing I would do is off load the beta males on the team. AV has been icing too many guys who play a deflated game for too many minutes, and you see the results and the battle level not being there. Those guys = Gone.

Pouliot + Bourque for Mathias + Contract. Give Florida a French Canadian skill forward for Hubeardeau and someone he can learn from. FLA gets out under Mathias' contract for next year, plus another one while getting a role player prospect.

D. Powe for draft pick. Powe is what he is, and it doesn't look like he has the puck skills for AV's system, but he's a solid pro and fills a role that another team can appreciate while giving the Rangers an asset to use or move.

Pyatt- I know AV loves the guy, but a team playing that heavy brand of hockey out west can sure use a guy like him. Maybe the Rangers get a guy that can become a Nolan or King type that a tough team out west doesn't feel is ready for prime time. A prospect like Lane McDermott, or a Matt Fraser that can play bottom line and bring some energy.

Zucc- Ideal 13th Forward, locker room presence.

Dorsett for Thorburn. No this is not a down grade. Thorburn can't play the puck like Dorsett, but Thorburn can PK, is bigger, respected around by his peers, and is probably the closest thing to a Clowe/Prust type. Trading Dorsett saves against the cap, and wakes up the CLB boys from their comfort zone. You're paid to play a role, and if you don't step up and do it, well then you're out of here.

D. Moore- Nice guy, and good role player, but he hasn't been effective. Not winning draws, not learning fast enough even though he's a Harvard guy, and losing physical battles against bigger players is why I move him. Plus he isn't the energy bug he was back in 06, where that kid was all heart and all out every shift, so as much as I may like him, he isn't effective enough in his role.

So bottom six:

Kreider/Miller - Lindberg/Miller/Mathias/Boyle - Fast/Kristo/RH Shot 2nd PP or PK Unit
Haley/Mashinter/Mathias - Boyle/ Mathias - Thorburn

Dont really understand this thread

Isnt the best case scenario finishing first overall and winning the Stanley Cup?

I want everyone that is in charge of this team gone. I want half the players that are ON this team gone.

so for me, the best case is to finish last so that is more likely an option than winning a cup cementing their positions in the Org.

Sometimes, the best thing doesn't appear to be the best thing when it actually happens.

Basically this is how do you think the team stands if they don't blow it up thread. But it turned into fire everyone.

Basically was looking for the what the outlook was of those people opposed to a 'panic blow up the team' strategy.
