Best 10 foot pass by Marner...

He makes so many subtle, intelligent passes that most people miss. Its no coincidence that many players have their best season with mitch on their wing.

Best offensive leaf player I have ever seen. Would not be shocked if he wins an art ross someday.

For Marner to win the Art Ross I think he will need to score at least 35+ goals.

Good view of the play:

Everyone’s focusing on Matthews’ move and finish, which was indeed filthy, but yeah, that Marner pass was unreal. Assuming he meant to do it, and I think he did.

Maybe I'm a little biased when I say this, but I can't see any other player having a better assist this season than that one from Marner.

I know that. However besides the assists Marner gets shouldn't he also score more goals to have a better chance at possibly winning the Art Ross?
Goals are points so they wont hurt. Fyi...he is currently on a 41 goal annualized pace.

Petey hits Marner right in the numbers long after the pass has been made to Matthews. Lucky Marner was not injured going into boards. Stealthy dirty play by Petey since all the eyes will be on the goal scorer.

Someone pointed it out (forgot whom) but I only got to see it today!

I know goals are points. I'm just saying wouldn't he need something like 43 goals and 67 assists for 110 points as an example to win the Art Ross. Those were the stats Leon Draisaitl won the Art Ross with last season.

30 goal 80 assists are certainly possible for a prime Marner, especially with the goal scorers he plays with. He's virtually tied with McDavid with the most primary assists/60 over the last 3+ years and he's getting far more TOI than in the past.

Those numbers would be more in line when he had those 26 goals and 68 assists for 94 points in the 2018-19 Season.

Technically he would only have needed 111 points to beat him

I never said he needed to beat Draisaitl's totals from last year. I just used his stats as an example of what I think it would take for Marner to win a Art Ross.
It changes every year. I think if by some miracle, Marner keeps up this pace, for instance, it is highly likely he wins. It is blisteringly fast and it is unlikely McĎavid or Drai would keep up.

Just an amazing playmaker.

A lot of people love to scream at him when he makes a turnover on a blind pass in the o-zone. They don't realize that's what makes him so dangerous!

Anyone can make an easy open pass but it's knowing where all his teammates are on the ice (or where they should be) that separates him from even a good playmaker.

Other great playmakers like Nikita Kucherov do the exact same thing. It's really a %'s type play and will result in far more goals (and assists) than just doing the safe open pass that any NHLer can do and is easy to read and defend against.

It also makes him far scarier to play against which will cause defenders to make mistakes.
