Bertuzzi for Game 2?

According to the Bleacher Report Bertuzzi is "ready to go" for game 2. They also say "Babcock unlikely to make any changes for Game 2". Should Babcock put Big Bert in for Eaves or should he keep things steady as she goes and keep things the way they are? I vote for putting in Bertuzzi, but what do you think?

1 word.

cannotbeworsethancleary.

As much as Cleary sucked for the majority of this season he wasn't part of the problem in game 1.

Our Defence were turning pucks over almost every time they touched it and guys like Flip were squandering some great chances. Even Datsyuk had a terrible game by his standards.

If Bert is in, then the only players that might get scratched would be Tootoo, Brunner, Nyquist or Eaves.

Sure, and Howard could have stopped the second goal.

But mistakes are made in games. The defense doesn't play perfect, that's why you invest in a good goalie. Forwards are there to score more than the defensive mistakes your team makes.

Bert could have done that, potentially. Of course you get your D to calm down and stop making terrible turnovers. But you also ice the best offense you can. There's no reason not to do both.

And yeah, it probably wouldn't be Cleary scratched.

I'm not sure Bert would be an upgrade on anyone on the roster given how long he's been out.

Howard on the other hand did his job just fine as he has for most of the season, regardless of whether they are good or bad goals if your goalie holds the opposition to 2 or fewer goals you're going to win more often than you lose.

I was just pointing out that there are better scapegoats right now than Cleary for why we trail in the series. As far as the offence being the problem I think the biggest problem with our offence was our Defence. They were unable to transition from our own end to theirs without turning the puck over and they were also unable to break up cycles which ultimately led to penalties and goals against.

Its a long series though and half of our defence were playing their first playoff games so hopefully the jitters are gone and they'll be sharper tonight.

Bert isn't coming in for Eaves, Tootoo is the likely target. It is a shame that Tootoo hasn't learned to kill penalties, it will likely cost him a couple years of his career that he doesn't do it.

Boy, that was really the troubling part, wasn't it? The D had no cohesion and it really disrupted breakouts and zone entries.

Here's hoping they settle down and coaching found something in the tape that can ease their struggles.

Babcock said Bertuzzi is playing. Samuelsson will be in warmup before they decide if he plays

Bam! Hopefully it's not Franzen who's hurting

Freaking called Bert being in the lineup...Sammy warming up as well. It's Babcock people, big veterans get the love, especially in the playoffs.

The only positive I can get from this is if Bert is inserted on the second line and cleary moves down. Even then, I don't like it very much because an effective player like Gus or Tootoo could be the one getting scratched. Gahhhhh :shakehead

Edit: ****, apparently Toots is getting scratched.

Babcock would not scratch Gus. Glad Bert is playing. Think he will be more effective then Tootoo. Hopefully Sammi doesn't play because that means somebody is injured.

I don't understand why Eaves wouldn't get the scratch. Tootoo is by far more valuble than Eaves. He's a multi dimensional player. In addition to his offensive ability he is a physical presence on the ice and an energy player that the team and fans feed off of.

Did you even watch game 1? Tootoo got a stupid penalty and the Ducks scored their first goal 4 seconds into the PP. He's a liability. Eaves is a much better PKer and he doesn't take stupid penalties.

Eaves can PK. Tootoo can't.

Tootoo didn't take a stupid penalty.

He got make-up called.

Bert in for Tootoo is a net positive for us. Sit Emmerton and start sammy, too. Then re-arrange the centers to make it work.
