Bennett hit on Stolarz (no supplemental discipline) MOD WARNING IN POST #621

I think you’re focusing too much on the visual of the play vs. the potential intent based on the player that did it.
Sorry for focusing on something objective rather than speculating about something that’s impossible to know, you’re right it makes more sense to do the opposite

I mean to be fair speaking from my own experience, in school I crashed head first into a wall in gym, sat for ten minutes, got back into the game and went on with my day. It was probably 45 minutes to an hour later during the next period I was so out of it I could barely walk.

Sure, I don’t doubt that, and hope you recovered well. In the case of Stolarz and goalies, we often see them take shots to the mask (sometimes losing their mask) and they carry on without issue. They wear their mask to protect them, no reason to believe that wasn’t the case here.

Could the shot have made impact? Maybe. I won’t pretend to know exactly what happened. But I think the most likely scenario is what we saw play out. He took a shot to the mask (which he was ready for), shrugged it off, continued to play well, and then took a blindsided elbow to the head where he was completely defenceless and unable to brace for.

If the NHL is serious about safety than it's going to be a suspension. Bennett has a reputation that can’t be denied. Anyone making fun of brain injuries because of their hatred towards the leafs should be ashamed.

You’re speculating though. Stolarz looked just fine after that slapshot. If he was concussed there would have been some indicator, and worst case, they would have pulled him at intermission. The fact that he stayed in the game, and was playing at a high level suggests it was just a typical shot to the mask.
Brains work in weird ways

Were all speculating here but obviously most people correlate with the most immediate impact and nothing further.

The puck couldve done nothing, or it may have.

The hit may have done the damage, or it may have done nothing and the trauma finally then kicked in.

Im no medical doctor but ive done some on the side reading for the army.

Whatever the case is i hope stolarz is ok, Bennett has been riding the line way too close and id be pretty mad if this happened to bob

I didn't find the hit to be overly egregious. 🤷

Not a fan of either team. I suspect that the truth lies somewhere in the middle of the Leafs fans pretending that it was an overtly predatory hit that directly caused an injury and the Florida fans pretending that the hit had absolutely zero consequence on Stolarz.

The puck to the forehead would worry me more than the fly by forearm. I don't expect a suspension. If anything, a very short 1 or 2 games.

The question now is can Toronto depend on Woll to pick up where Stolarz left off?

FWIW Jake Allen said blindside bumps are far worse than any puck he's gotten to the mask
This is a fair point, not being braced for a hit to the head is what results in injury the most. This is why boxers train their necks so heavily.

Regardless, doesn’t mean it’s a suspension worthy hit. Unfortunate result.

Not really sure what this means tbh, both of his playoff suspensions looked worse than this and he got suspended.
The constant whining whenever he got suspended, something about hes only getting suspended because hes Kadri, any other player wouldnt be, that whole bit. Yet here ya'll are advocating for a Bennett suspension because its Bennett.

I didn’t advocate for a suspension. Also the irony of you grouping up Leafs fans into one bucket and saying we all have one hive mind while you also claim to be a Leafs fan. Hilarious stuff.

Shit like this reminds that most people don't play hockey.

What is Bennett to do here? Not drive to the net? Where exactly is his arm supposed to go in this scenario? Stolarz is at the edge of the blue paint exposing himself to potential contact.

Was their contact? Of course, but it seems entirely incidental. I think the contact was exacerbated by the shots to the mask that Stolarz took beforehand. If those already concussed him then this collision would've definitely made it worse for him when anyone without prior knocks probably would've gotten up pretty quickly.

Point of contact is clearly hand/wrist onto the back of his head.

If that’s the case, why did Bennett raise and extend his forearm towards Stolarz’s head? If you look at his stick position, it doesn’t look like he’s going for the puck when he hits Stolarz in the crease. Looks like a dirty hit

"Intent based on the player who did it" which is exactly what I was talking about with what was whined about whenever it was Kadri.

Yup, f*** me for tryna be the voice of reason in a sea of delusion

That doesn’t mean I said he should be suspended, genius. It means I think he tried to initiate contact.

It was intentional and should have been a penalty and merits a suspension.

Our goalie was vomiting after the intentional hit. Could be one serious effect or another but it was caused by the intentional hit.

Sober attention to detail and inference to the best, simplest explanation doesn't leave a whole lot of room for the subjective tour of an infinite number of possibilities.

If there was an Uno card where anyone in the organization could suit up, I'd mortgage the house to watch Chief suit up to tune up Bennett and Maurice and the refs.

Gutless engagement all around.
