Bennett hit on Stolarz (no supplemental discipline) MOD WARNING IN POST #621

It was definitely greasy, but it wasn't a very hard shot. The problem is that goalies can't protect themselves like players, because they have to be focused on the shot coming. Their arms and legs are all over the place and so they can get hurt by much less contact than players.

Bennett knew what he was doing. He's a greasy SOB. But the NHL has never really protected goalies very well and I don't think this will result in anything additional.

The biggest losers in all of this, aside from Bennett, are the fans calling Stolarz soft.

I'm honestly confused, to me that hit looked like bennet trying to get Stolarz off his game. The hit didn't look that hard at all.

Does Stolarz have a history of concussions?

Reading this thread ia amazing.

No matter what you tell yourself that Bennett "hit'' is a pillow soft.

You want to it to be dirty so bad you can not even look at the hit clearly.

The trip on Rino was 1000 times more dangerous. Layed out to trip a player, so he fell to the ice hard.

No amount of gaslighting is going to work. Sure, in a vacuum I can understand how some might have your opinion.

This is not in a vacuum. This is a player with a clear, documented pattern of "oops I just gave you a concussion" without facing a single repercussion. IMO if anyone things he did not do it on purpose they are naive. I have read several articles this morning quoting former players, all of them said he did it on purpose even if their opinion on punishment varied.

So again I ask, how many more times is Bennett allowed to keep crossing the line and injuring players before the league steps in? The Panthers have given out 2 traumatic brain injuries in their last 3 games (Hagel, Stolarz). What is the point of the DOPS?

Exactly. The posters here that are dog piling a guy who was vomiting at the bench and stretchered out of the building are gross. Whatever you may think about Bennett's culpability, there is zero reason to doubt he (Stolarz) was legitimately hurt.

He needs to be suspended for this. I don't care how much force there was, it was dirty and caused a significant injury.

The playoffs shouldn't be an excuse to stop protecting the players.

Did anybody do anything to Bennet after
Nope the Leafs were too busy trying to hang onto the lead. I hope that if any of these games start going the wrong way on the score sheet they start taking runs at Bob. Florida's backup is a drop off.

People were doubting the injury because it was such a nothing play

Unfortunate that Stolarz is hurt and I think Bennett is an extremely dirty player but this was nothing

I'm not a Florida fan and definitely believe hitting the goalie is a bullshit move, but watching the video in the OP it doesnt look that bad to me.. confused how he starting puking from that. Not a doctor by any means but I've seen way worse. Maybe he was sick?

They put him down 1-0 in the series... I think there is a time and place for retaliation and losing the game because you change your focus or get a penalty is likely not the best way to handle it.

The icing on the cake:

When Matthews cross-checked Dahlin in the outdoor game, the DoPS announced that Matthews had a hearing for the hit during the game.

They announced it between the 2nd and 3rd periods.

f***ing crickets tonight while Stolarz is in the hospital.

It's almost like there is a world of difference between these two events and they aren't remotely the same.

Looks like a soft nothing play/contact IMO, but there was clearly a real injury, so I think he should probably be suspended.

A lot of people talking about intent in this thread. Bennett absolutely doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt but at the end of the day does it really matter? Recklessness isn’t an excuse and never has been. He crashes the crease under his own power and hits the goalie in the head.

99% of the players in the league don’t go around trying to injure people. But they play recklessly and bad things happen, and they are responsible for that.

Psst Just to let you know....it's ok when leaf players hand out headshots.

So just wondering...did Stolarz leave for the hospital after getting pulled or did he sit on the bench till the end of the game, celebrated the win, showered then got carted into an ambulance to the hospital that's parked there for every game?
Bruin fans are well aware how Berube manipulates the officials and the league.

He went off, didn't come back, puked on the bench, the crew came out to clean it, and then he was stretchered off to the hospital.

Hildeby was on the bench for the rest of the game (I didn't even know you could use your own goalie as an emergency backup in the playoffs).

leafs fans really cant put a massive slapper from reino whackin his noggin ans this being correlated at all
If that ‘rung his bell’ then he wouldn’t have kept playing. I mean, goalies take shots to the mask fairly commonly, the mask is there to protect. But that wasn’t even the same period. He had a full intermission. Then he takes an elbow to the head and goes down immediately, why wouldn’t someone think that was the cause? It’s common sense.

Still perplexed how Stolarz made it through life if that had him puking and getting stretchered off

He didn’t have someone throwing an elbow cheapshot at his head. I know people are saying it was minor, but watch all the angles and in regular speed, then see how Stolarz’ head/neck bends on contact.

I think you even can during the regular season, on the off chance that for some reason you're carrying three healthy goalies on the 23-man roster, and have one sitting in the press box as a healthy scratch if one of your goalies goes down with an injury. If a team did that for some odd reason, I think they'd still be governed by the rules for emergency backup goaltenders, as in they would not be allowed to enter the game unless the second goalie went down with an injury too, however.
