Bennett hit on Stolarz (no supplemental discipline) MOD WARNING IN POST #621

To hold his ice because tavares skates into him............. just wild how you can be a leaf fan only. No hockey iq.
You don’t need to stick your elbow out to ‘hold the ice’. We can agree to disagree. Not everything has to turn into personal insults, pal.

We'll see what the league does, but the head was the target, he did it on purpose, and it resulted in an injury.Definite grounds for discipline, regardless of how the force of it appeared.

A couple big problems in here is that posterd keep showing the worst angle of the incident and they keep referencing a Twitter guy whose main evidence it actually came early in the first period on a shot is that Stolarz shook his head after putting his mask on (which all goalies do to adjust it).

The top down angle and live broadcast are clear as day though as Bennett intentionally targeting the head and the contact drives Stolarz head to the side.

I wasn't thinking that much at first as I thought it was more ambiguous (from that first angle everyone was showing) but a targeted headshot that knocks a key player out for an extended time by a repeat offender?

3-5 games seems about right.

DOPS is already seen as a joke though after letting guys like Bennett get away with murder before but I think they might be doing him a favor by taking him out for a bit at this point as he's starting to enter Samuelsson territory now in terms of reputation.

I think it's pretty well established that the first incident that causes the concussion isn't necessarily the worst one. It's the subsequent trauma while already concussed that is really scary and potentially dangerous.

Makes this elbow to the back of the head of a player who's already concussed even worse, in that context.
Unless the Leafs magically got Zadorov this morning he's gonna keep doing whatever he wants.

You can clearly see him punching out of the hit because once the contact is over his elbow shoots out, meaning he was putting a lot of force into it

I am 100% bias but I hope he gets season ban, you simply cannot try to injure a goalie because players are constantly crashing into the net and it is so easy to find opportunities to purposely injure someone

This is really really dirty

Freddie Anderson got smoked 100 times harder than that by Meier, and was called soft and incidental. Stolarz was not concussed by this brush by Bennett. It was the wrister by Reino that busted his mask if anything.

If nothing comes of this I need to take a break from the sport. Still so angry this morning over this crap. It's not even hockey. Just allowed to injure players over and over and take them out of the series and the league just allows it.

Someone posted on reddit the Panthers have now tried to injure 4 players in 6 games

- Tkachuk major
- Mikkola hit / fine
- Ekblad headshot suspension
- Stolarz headshot

Now add in Tkachuk throwing the knee at Marner to end the game

When does the league step in? Because Leaf fans already have seen this before. Nothing happens, our players take it into our own hands, and we get suspended for doing it right back. Enough

It was definitely greasy, but it wasn't a very hard shot. The problem is that goalies can't protect themselves like players, because they have to be focused on the shot coming. Their arms and legs are all over the place and so they can get hurt by much less contact than players.

Bennett knew what he was doing. He's a greasy SOB. But the NHL has never really protected goalies very well and I don't think this will result in anything additional.

The biggest losers in all of this, aside from Bennett, are the fans calling Stolarz soft.

If there was no disciplinary action for this hit (see video), then there should certainly be no disciplinary action for the hit in question on Stolarz.

Stolarz previous to Bennett brushing up against him took a slap shot off his mask practically knocking it off.
I can't stand Bennett but what he did was not much compared to that shot.

Is Maurice known to be encouraging this type of play, or turning a blind eye to it? Seems like there are way too many instances of panthers engaging in cheap shots for it to be coincidental.

There’s no way they have this many “accidents” if it’s not encouraged. Team physicality is a good thing but if you’ve got a team that routinely goes too far, something’s got to be rotten in the locker room.

The league fined Ottawa $25k because a guy flipped pucks down the ice in warmups. But they won’t do shit about this.

Reading this thread ia amazing.

No matter what you tell yourself that Bennett "hit'' is a pillow soft.

You want to it to be dirty so bad you can not even look at the hit clearly.

The trip on Rino was 1000 times more dangerous. Layed out to trip a player, so he fell to the ice hard.

Why don’t you list Scott Stevens hits and stuff from the 80s while you’re at it.

He lightly brushed Stolarz who was playing very high in his crease. No motion to hit Stolarz was made at all.

Strong hockey play.

On the hand other, you know what is vicious? These hits:

Nuts take and hate to see it from a fellow Habs fan considering what happened to Price after Kreider. Leafs or not, we should know better.

This was a dirty shot to the goalie. Heads are sensitive and weird, just takes an awkward angle and some force. Stolarz ended up puking on the bench and went to the hospital
Stolarz being hurt doesn’t mean it was dirty, he also took a very hard shot off the mask minutes before

It was an absolute nothing play
