Since he's a pending UFA and you're talking about after the season, 7m in cap space for 6-8 years.

Lets start with theres no way Rinne Retires at the end of the year and leaves 14Mil on the table..

Yeah I know he has had his struggles, but why would a 34 year old retire and leave that much money on the table. Has there actually been talk of him retiring?

I'd be more interested in the price if we were acquiring him as a rental for this season, provided Rinne isn't in form. What would the cost be? 1st+?

Weird proposal.

One of the only teams in the league that does NOT need Bishop

No we could actually use Bishop, I think very few people expect Rinne to rebound this season and at best we're hoping for average goaltending (which was certainly not the case last year. Preds need a goalie for the future because Saros isn't a sure thing, but there's no way Rinne retires.

Has he grown at all? I have a hard time believing a goalie Enroth'a size will be an NHL starter.

I don't think he needs to if his positioning is elite. He's looked excellent at every level he's played at, and it's only recently that the NHL has moved towards the 6'5" giant goaltender, there's been short starters in the league before.

Bishop's not going anywhere as a rental: he has a NMC, is playing on a top contender, and will be a UFA at the end of the season, so there's simply no reason for him to waive unless he's getting the longterm deal he wants. In addition he's worth more to Tampa this season than to most other teams so it's unlikely anyone would offer enough for Bish as a rental for it to be worth trading him.

That said given both our cap and protection situations we'd be looking for young, cheap, expansion-exempt, high-potential talent: either a player early into his ELC or a prospect who isn't far from being NHL-ready. Positionally we'd be looking for either a RHD with top four potential (and preferably some skill on the power play) or an offensively-skilled forward with true top-six potential (NOT a probable middle-sixer as we have plenty of those already.) Basically we'd be looking either to fill the organizational need at RHD or for scoring depth/a potential replacement for a top six forward who will be lost to the cap. Anything less - a pick that isn't in the first half of the first round, a grinder forward, a bottom pairing defenseman - and it's simply not worth our while to trade Bishop. The only exception is if you would also be willing to take back Callahan or Filppula as a cap dump - that would decrease the price somewhat (Callahan far more than Filppula.)

The only way this could happen is the Bolts crap out before the trade deadline. While I like Vish we are gonna need Bishop. And for those who do not think the Preds will need help in goal have not seen much of them the last 3 years. Rinne has never really fully recovered from the hip surgery period. It does not look to be a physical thing and he has sure had a number of mental lapses. That said The Preds will only go as far as Rinne will take them. Im not gonna get into the nuts and bolts of it but after supporting the Preds since day one I have latched on to the Bolts for this years run.

Bishop could well be the difference for Tampa winning the cup this year. Yes many will think it poor asset management to just let him walk with no return but if he helps bring a cup who cares. Its not like Tampa does not have a load of talent and prospects. And yes next summer will be cut throat trying to sign who we need to. But power teams like the Bolts are now must move a player a year really just like the Hawks have to remain under the cap. Win now worry about next summer when you lift the Cup.
