My understanding is that he's similar to Bemström in the way that there's been expectations, only that he's been on a couple of teams already. Would imagine Bemmer is the 'better' player here, and a year younger, but there's a chance neither never makes it...
So a reclamation project (Nylander) for a slightly better odds reclamation project (Bemmer) is my take, and we get a 6th for the difference in project scope. I'm fine with it. (Famous last words... we'll see.)
And like Crede77 said in the trade thread, maybe we were going to waive Bemström and this was a way of getting something in return, a pre-emptive move so we don't lose him for nothing...
He's a tweener. He shows flashes but his game is not quite good enough for one of the NHL's worst teams. He's an AHLer in reality who really belongs in Europe.

Yeah yeah yeah, you’re upset that Jarmo got you hyped up for a 4th round pick that is a 25-30 point player, I get it.
I’m taking about why is Nylander being called up?
Maybe give him a chance to see if he finds something in his game with new linemates?
I doubt there's a long-term plan to have him in the NHL though, so maybe just a couple of games and then back to Cleveland...

I like this move, Nylander makes the minimum this season with no guarantee he gets resigned. We are out from under that Bemstrom contract next season.

Portzline just tweeted that if Bemstrom scores 6 goals with Pens this season the 6th becomes a 3rd. I think it's doable.
They also feel Nylander can play in the NHL but draft pick was key.

Nylander is a nothing and the pick is a nothing unless it becomes a 3rd.
Wish Bemmer well and I think he’ll be a good addition to Pittsburgh.
