Bedard, Michkov, or Celebrini: Who would you build around?

I'd probably think about taking Bedard to build around, and then swerve at the last moment and go with my gut on Celebrini. He's also super talented, but the way he plays the game just seems like the type of thing you can build a "winner" around. Bedard could certainly get there too, but i think his size is always going to be a disadvantage, and i'm not entirely sure he'll ever be able to get to that same level of all-around, two-way play that i think Celebrini will be able to hit.

And Michkov...well he's a winger, and i don't believe in building around wingers.

Matthews& Laine had clearly better rookie seasons than Bedard as well if you want to go by offense. They were legit impact players

If you watched him at all you’d say his overall game looked abysmal, even team Canada had to admit they can’t play him because he was so raw

Bedard had good but nothing special rookie season for where he was drafted

Celebrinis overall game wipes the floor with Bedards and that’s extemely valuable and impressive

Bedard probably has the highest ceiling but he has the most work to do to get there

There’s a long distance between where Bedard is at and those players though, and he might never get there. I don’t think anyone is taking Celebrini for his all around game assuming there’s going to be a 40 point gap or something. It’s because he also has elite offensive potential and projects as a better play driver (he’s already one of the best zone entry players in the league). Bedard still has the higher production ceiling that would likely be too hard to ignore if he hits it, but there’s also a distinct possibility that their offensive games end up similarly.

Michkov is an amazing player. If he was a natural centre, then I’d pick him. I pick Celebrini because he too is a fantastic player, and he’s a natural centre. Bedard isn’t a player I’d choose to build around.

Michkov - yes.
Bedard - no.

Haven't seen a lot of Celebrini to gauge his effect on a team, but currently I would have him 2nd behind Michkov with Bedard 3rd, so far, but it's early.

Pre season this would have been 70% Bedard, 29% Michkov, 1% Celebrini. Standard hfboards recency bias at full effect.

Although Bedard's struggles do make me question his franchise level player ceiling and compete level. Michkov has been as expected, but Celebrini has been quite the surprise. I don't think many thought he'd have a start like this on a weak sharks team.

Celebrini is as complete of a forward as I have seen from anyone who has played in the NHL as a teenager. I'm shocked at how well he has adjusted to playing at this level considering his age and how intelligently he plays the game, his ability to get into a good position all over the ice with exceptionally good timing is something that takes most skaters years to develop.

I would agree that Bedard and Michkov have more offensive upside now and probably will in the future but it's hard for me to not want to build around such a rare complete talent that could effectively develop into being an absolutely dominant force in every aspect of the game as a 1C.

Sweet opinion, you have yours, I have mine. Celebrini’s already been hurt, what? Twice? I’ll take Michkov by a hair over Bedard to start a hockey team. I think both are just more talented players than Celebrini.

My opinion and the opinion of every GM and hockey pundit out there. You build a winner from the back and down the middle, wingers are the least important and least valuable members of any team for a reason

You seriously don't think the average GM knows how to build a better NHL team than you? I'm validating my opinion based on the most elite people in said field on the entire planet sharing it, yes, absolutely. That said I agree with your last point wholeheartedly when it comes to July 1st and the madness that sets in to front offices league wide for that brief time annually, lol
