At the NHL's all-star break, the Detroit Red Wings sport a 26-17-4 record, putting them 3rd in their division thus far. Both Vermette and Michalek will be UFAs at season's end.

At the head of this charge was Pavel Datsyuk, as the veteran centre led the team in scoring with 26g 43a 69pts. EARLY DEVELOPMENTS

In a move that surely intensified a California rivalry, the San Jose Sharks signed RFA defenseman, Simon Despres (Anaheim Ducks property) on October 19. Sharks management, knowing the Ducks have an internal cap, signed the young defenseman to a 1 year, $2.7 million dollar offer sheet, which Simon Despres accepted.

After a week had passed, the Ducks had decided that they can't match after trying to make moves to fit Despres in and keep him in the fold. As a result, Simon Despres officially became San Jose Sharks property for the season, as the San Jose Sharks forfeited their 2nd round pick to the Anaheim Ducks as a result.

The Sharks signed RFA defenseman, Simon Despres, for a 1 year deal from the Anaheim Ducks.

As a result of the trade, Despres slotted into the 3rd pairing, playing with Braun as McQuaid became a healthy scratch. Bob McKenzie reported that as a result of the signing, one of Braun or McQuaid will be traded.

NOV 1 - The San Jose Sharks completed a trade with the Ottawa Senators, dealing a defenseman and acquiring a young forward in return.

GM MCG gets heated defending his moves

GM MCG commented on his moves: "We're getting younger on the blue line. Simple as that. It started with Despres and continued with Maatta. People think we took Despres from the Ducks as a rivalry move or to be the bad guys, that's fine, but we're really not bad guys. We're doing what we have to do to succeed and move forward. Burns, Vlasic... they won't be playing hockey at a high level forever."

2014-2015 (1st season)

I'm more focused on the calder trophy with my rookies than on Ovi (hart/art/maurice) :)

So I have 3 candidates. Kuznetsov, Burakovsky and Klingberg. But of course it will be more easier with Kuznetsov and Burakovsky. They're 1st and 2nd on the scoring list in the rookie standing. 14 pts for Gaudreau, 11 for Drouin and Bennet and 10 for Forsberg. Hutchinson, Gibson and Vasilevskiy are in for the goaltenders.

Holtby was injured for 1 game, so Grubauer was recalled for this one.

Dallas proposed 2 times Horcoff to me for 4 different prospects. (2 and 2) but of course I decided to reject.

Hershey Bears, the AHL team, is the second best team in the league.

I'm posting a new log tonight.

I went 8 seasons with the Avalanche, I think I've logged up to my fourth season here. The reason I am posting a new one instead of continuing with the Avalanche, is that I took notes while playing ahead, and my note taking was inconsistent which going forward makes it hard to tell a proper narrative (which IMO is the point of a log).

I've started one with the Senators. I'm three seasons in, instead of taking notes, I wrote everything pretty much in full as I went along. This log will be a bit different, as I'll limit my team's budget to 10 percent below what ever the cap is. IE, 70M cap, 62M budget. Eugene Melnyk......

I'll aim to cover this log until Karlsson retires. So that would probably be 10+ seasons. We'll see how many cups I can get him....

As far as Colorado goes, the best I did was losing the cup in game 7. I also lost in game 7 of the conference final one year.

Some notable events, Duchene betrayed us and joined the Minnesota Wild in free agency. I guess he wanted to prove that we should have gotten behind him and not MacKinnon. The year Duchene left, the Avalanche were struggling to stay in playoff contention and made a ballsy move by picking up Stastny from the Blues (Basement team) at the deadline. He cost two former 2nd round picks (one being Jeremy Roy) and an upcoming 2nd.

Vasileskiy was a bust, but early in the season that we made our cup final run we obtained an ageing Frederik Andersen from Montreal for a 3rd round draft pick. At 86 overall, he was an amazing goalie and was the one to take the Avalanche to the cup final. Unfortunately, he used the Avalanche as a stepping stone to get a huge deal on the open market.

I'm gonna start posting my Ottawa log tonight.

DANIELPALFREDSSON'S OTTAWA SENATORS GM LOG

SETTINGS/ADDED RULES
GM Firing: On
Trade Difficulty: Hard
Draft Pick Ownership: Authentic

DIFFICULTY SETTING: EUGENE MELNYK
The Senators are a team who in real life cannot spend to the cap. The Eugene Melnyk difficulty mode imposes the following limitations.
1-I can only spend to roughly 10 percent below the cap. Meaning, on a 70M cap, my budget would be 62M. This will result in having to pay special attention to prospects and development, being mostly unable to sign big name UFA players off the open market, and having to trade players whose salaries escalate.

2-No BUYING OUT players.

3-No RETAINING SALARY on trades.

Added Rules:
-GM firing is on, so if I am fired by my original team, I will continue with a new team. The point is to do my best to fulfil the goals of the ownership. If ownership wants 44 wins and playoffs, I won't try and rebuild or tank.
-No “poaching†4.5 star prospects via trade.
-No trading up into the top 5 of the draft.
-Players on 1 way deals who do not make the opening day roster have to be deliberately sent through waivers at the start of the season. If they clear, they can be assigned to the AHL.
-Build a realistic team. Attempt to play as many players as possible at their natural positions and as many D on their natural side.
-UFAs are UFAs. Meaning, at the start of each season, I will use a random answer generator to determine whether upcoming UFAs are willing to extend. The ones who say no will either have to be traded at the deadline, or released for nothing. Once UFAs who didn't extend are released to the open market, just like with any free agent after July 1st I am allowed to compete for them if I'd like. The consequence is they ask for a lot more, and probably don't sign with me.

NO TRADE CLAUSES:
-I will attempt to respect real life NTC's to the best of my ability.

How No Trade Clauses Will Work:
Limited NTC:

-Cannot be traded to a team that is in the bottom 10 of the standings.

Full NTC:
-Cannot be traded AT ALL until the trade deadline at the final year of their deal. Cannot be traded to a team in the bottom 10 of the standings, ALSO a yes or no generator will be used which will allow them to veto trades. An example, I am sending Dany Heatley to Edmonton, the trade looks to be of equal value and it looks like it will go through. Before pressing triangle to send the trade, I use the yes or no generator, if it says no, Dany Heatley vetoes the trade, and I have to try another team.

Who gets what NTC?
-When signing UFAs, all 2nd liners, top 4 d, or starting goalies get limited no trade clauses.
-When signings UFAs, all 1st liners, top 2 d, or elite goalies get FULL no trade clauses.
-Free agents cannot be traded during the first year of their deal. The only exception is if it is a one year deal, they can be moved at the deadline.
-RFA's only get NTC's if signed to deals that extend past their final RFA year (Usually, 27 years old and beyond)

FRANCHISE PLAYER RULE
-One player, in this case Erik Karlsson is the franchise player. He is exempt from UFA status, but he also can never be traded......who would ever want to trade Erik Karlsson anyway?

Season 1 Summary Coming Soon....

Removed the Dany Heatley rule because I always forget about it.

Added a Franchise player rule.

Also, no retaining or buying out players, which if you follow Ottawa you know they have a few players who are overpaid based on their overalls in the game. (I dropped Colin Greening to 78 overall, at 82, he is overpowered in this game).

DANIELPALFREDSSON'S OTTAWA SENATORS GM LOG: Part 1 Pre-Game Roster Edits

CHAPTERS
1-Rules and Settings

Because you cannot edit contracts, and cannot choose to start in the 2016 season, this game log exists in a strange alternate universe. You should consider everything that has happened to Ottawa in real life (IE.The Hamburglar run) to have happened, but some contracts will be inaccurate because of how the game accounts for them.

467098687_slide.jpg

PLAYERS DROPPED TO FREE AGENCY
I went to generalfanager.com and looked at every team's UFA's for the upcoming off season. I dropped a majority of these UFA's to free agency. If you're a hardcore fan of a specific team, you might be able to point out a player who they've been rumoured to want to extend that I dropped, so this won't be 100 percent perfect.

Most of these players were guys traded for as rentals (IE. Vermette) so they will hit free agency in real life. The main purpose of doing this was to keep salary caps accurate. Most playoff teams have caps that exceed the ceiling because when you add players via trade at the end of the season only their remaining salary is added to the cap. A team like Chicago for example, would be well over the cap if they had Vermette and Timmonen at the start of the year.

If these UFA's aren't dropped, the CPU then goes ahead and edits teams salary structures. So instead of having a cap hit of 10.5M per year, Toews and Kanes caps might be dropped to 7.5M by the CPU in order to make room for Vermette and Timmonen. I wanted to avoid this.

PLAYERS DROPPED TO FA:
-Belesky ANA
-Campbell, Paille, Soderberg, McQuade, Bartkowski BOS
-Vermette, Timonen, Oduya, Richards CHI
-Sekera, Williams, McBain LA
-Stewart MIN
-Gonchar, Weaver MON
-Franson, Ribiero NSH
-St.Louis NYR
-Condra OTT
-Coliacavo, White PHI
-Martin, Erhoff, Winnik PIT
-Niemi, Scott SJ
-Jokinen, Goc, Michalek, Jackman STL
-Morrow TB
-Booth, Orr, Brewer, TOR
-Green, Ward, Gleason WSH
-Pardy, Stafford, Budaj WIN

**Note**I also changed the potential of a few common players known to become too good in the game. I dropped Drouin from 4.5G* to 4.5*.......spoiler....he still becomes a beast...he just doesn't become Jonathan Gretzky.

MAC46_CONNOR_MCDAVID_POST.jpg

UPCOMING CHL PROSPECTS EDITED
I edited the top 5 non goalie prospects for the 2015 draft. I didn't feel like going through the hassle of creating Eichel and Hannifan, so I just used Konecny and Roy in their place. The goal is to have the top 5 prospects be NHL ready in different capacities.

-McDavid 5* 86oa (Best prospect since Mario. I find he never becomes good enough in this game, I don't think I've ever seen him become the best player in the league. Trying to get him to develop similar to how Drouin does in this game. Trying 5 yellow stars instead of 4.5G. Bringing him up to 86oa so he can step into the NHL in a top 6 role upon being drafted like he will in real life.)

-Travis “Eichel Avatar” Konecny 4.5* 84oa (I'm not going around creating a bunch of different NCAA guys so Konecny is going to play the role of future number 1 center/McDavid consolation prize. 84oa makes him ready to step in on a team's second line, or be a very good 3rd liner.)

-Jeremy “Don't call me Hanifan” Roy 4.5* 81oa (Again, this is our Hanifan. 81 means on a bad team he might crack the top 6 or even top 4.)

-Dylan Strome 4.5* 81oa (He should go 3/4. Top 5 players generally can step into the NHL right away, hence the 81oa rating. He won't be a top 6 player, but on a weak team might be their third line centre. )

-Mitch Marner 4.5 81oa (see Strome.)

CHANGES TO SENATORS PLAYERS
I made some minor changes to Senators players. Some players had their overalls lowered. Most changes were to potential. I lowered the potential of a few players who often develop much higher than they should (Weircioch or Ceci as an example), and I raised most prospects who Ottawa fans would be familiar with to at least 3.5 star or 3 green stars. The reason I did this is that as someone who follows the Senators, I'd rather have a prospect who I know end up as my third line RWer than a computer generated EA guy, or a random CHLer.

The only players who were drastically raised would be Marc Methot and Marc Stone. EA has Methot at 83oa, I raised him to an 86 top 4D. EA has Stone at 82 and 3* potential, I raised him to be similar in overall to Gaudreau and Forsberg as he is also a Calder Candidate.

Ottawa Senators Players Who Were Edited:
-Borowiecki 3.5* 79oa
-Ceci 4* 82oa
-Chiasson 3.5* 81oa
-Cowen 82oa 4.5*R
-Greening 78oa
-Gryba 81oa
-Hoffman 83oa 3.5*G Changed from PLY to SNP
-Karlsson 90oa upped O awareness to 95. The reason I did this is because there are multiple D with 90-92 o awareness. Karlsson is by far the best OFD in the league, and usually wins the D point race by a healthy margin. Upping him to 95 OAW should allow this to happen in simulations.
-Legwand 81oa
-Lehner 84oa 4.5*R (EA has him at 84 and 4G. 4R seems more appropriate since he's now being regarded as a goalie with elite potential who may be boom or bust.
-Marc Methot 86oa **Very underrated player by EA. Dude was invited to the team Canada Orientation camp last Olympics. He is either a great top 4 D or a fringe top 2 D. 86 oa shouldn't be too much of a stretch.
-Chris Neil 79oa
-Pageau 81oa 3G* **Could go either way between 3G or 3.5*Y, used green for some variety.....changed from a playmaker to a two way forward. Playmaker isn't inaccurate, but he plays more of an TWF role on the Senators.
-Phillips 78oa
-Puempel 81oa 4* Changed to 4* because he was a first round pick, and that seems to be the average star rating for first rounders in EA drafts. 81 oa because he won himself a spot on Ottawa's 4th line at the end of the season, and he is a player who formerly put up 30 goals in the AHL.
-Stone 87 4* Controversial choice I guess. Filip Forsberg is 86oa 4*G. That was my baseline. Seems fair for Stone to be a similar overall considering he is the leading Calder candidate at forward, lead the league in take aways, was Ottawa's best forward down the stretch, and was top 5 in points in the entire league after the all star break (which coincided with him getting first line minutes). If I get one get out of free homer ratings card, this is it).
-Wiercioch 83oa 3.5*
-Hammond 2.5G 85oa **He went something like 20+ games with only 1 regulation loss. Maybe he's a flash in the pan, but we won't know until next year......being 85 makes him a great back up goalie/or a low end starter. 2.5 stars, meaning he'll regress to AHL level if he isn't allowed enough games as a starter.

AHL POTENTIAL CHANGES
Claesson 3.5R
Dreidger 3.5
Dzingel 4R
McCormick 2.5G
Shane Prince 3.5 (Former 2nd round pick. Brought up to 76OA as he is a top 6 player in the AHL right now. He was originally only 69oa)
Robinson 3
Wideman 3G 79oa (He was AHL defenseman of the year. Deserves high end AHL, or depth D OA.)

CHL Prospects
Nick Paul 3.5* (Former 3rd round pick whose value has since gone up)
Tobias Lindberg 4R (Former 4th round pick who just had a big year in the CHL)
Englund 4* (Former 2nd round pick)

I hope you dropped Cowen, he sucks :shakehead

He's an 82oa 4.5R.

I think the game has him as a 4G which makes zero sense. 4.5 red because he's a former top 10 pick, but he is the definition of boom or bust at this point.

There'll be a few edits that people call homerism on, which is fine. Hammond at 85 will probably catch a lot of flack. Stone as a strong second liner might as well. Same with Methot.

Otherwise, I dropped a lot of people. Phillips is useless, Greening is useless, Neil was dropped.

Wiercioch and Ceci both were dropped in potential.

Lehner was dropped considerably in potential from 4G to 4.5R.

Instead of creating O'Connor, I raised Driedger to 3.5*.

The game pretty much assigns 4 star potential to any 1st or 2nd round pick, hence why Puempel and Englund are both 4 stars.

Breaking News!

:nhl

After losing out on buying the Arizona Coyotes (now in Quebec), a group of Seattle investors have purchased the Carolina Hurricanes with the intention of relocating them to Seattle.

A press conference has been scheduled for 5:00 today.

Press Conference
100thingsbluesfans.gif

Owner: As you all know, I am here to announce the purchase of the Carolina Hurricanes, and to announce that we will be relocating to Seattle. Our team name will be the Seattle Totems. I will now take questions.

Reporter: Will you be keeping the front office staff?

Owner: Yes. Rod Brind'Amour and his staff will stay.

Reporter: What do you want to do with this team?

Owner: I am expecting, and Rod knows this, to be a playoff team in 2 years. I know that's a tall task but I have faith in Rod and we need to get the fans' attention or else they wont be interested if were bad for the first 4 to 5 years.

Reporter: So if we are going to be in the West, does that mean Quebec will become an Eastern team?

Owner: I believe so, yes.

Reporter: Will you be keeping the Hurricanes roster?

Owner: Yes. It's a relocation, not an expansion.

Reporter: What do you want to say to the people of Seattle?

Owner: Be ready. Hockey is the most exciting, fast-paced sport on the planet and they deserve a team. We wanted to move the Coyotes there, but were just happy to get a team there now.

Reporter: Is there an arena ready?

Owner: While our arena is being built, we will play at Key Arena, a 17,072 seat arena. I believe our arena will take about 2 to 2 and a half years to build. We have sold the naming rights to Starbucks. It's going to hold about 20,000 people.

interior.jpg

Reporter: Have the jerseys been designed yet?

Owner: Yes, they have been finalized. We made prototypes when we thought we were going to get the Coyotes, but we will use them for this team.
