2025 1st unprotected, top prospect (NHL top ranked prospect, not just on the Sabres board), quality roster player to start. That’s about what it would start with. No cap dumps, career minor leaguers or future considerations. Aka this is too much for Buffalo to give up.

It should not be too much for them to give up. They have futures in spades.

Personally I don’t see Barzal being moved for futures. It would be a hockey trade. However if it’s futures; start with a 2025 unprotected 1st, Helenius, Peterka and go from there.

I mean, Power has more value than Barzal in a vaccuum. It would be Barzal + for Power. I would be willing to move Power, but the value has to be correct. Come on.
I probably agree. I think realistically he'd only get moved in a deal for Power. Something around Byram + Helenius/Top prospect might be similar value-wise, but in real life, lou or whoever is GM will only move him for another game-changer. I could definitely see the fit in the trade however, since Barzal is the forward the Sabres need who's in his prime but not too old. Plus you guys have plenty of LHD and it'd expedite the rebuild a little. What would the Isles add? I think they're similar value with the only difference being a few years in age.

Yeah, tough to say what the add would be, but if the goal is to find a reasonable working place to start from, I like the set up.

Peterka isn’t futures and his value is very high. This is ridiculous.
That’s my point, it’s not going to happen unless there’s a substantial overpayment. The Islanders however don’t need more roster filler to offset futures.

Both clubs need to do something big. Imo Barzel for Power is a fair trade. Sabres still have Dahlin to be their top D man and they add an elite forward. Islanders add an elite D to play with Dobson, but (for them) is a rebuilding move.
So a fair deal but one Lou Lam wouldn’t do.

Yea definitely think it's a good starting point. Salaries are similar and Power isn't significantly worth more than Barzal talent-wise, so I'd say maybe add a 3rd at most just to recoup a younger asset. Nothing crazy

If I were actually negotiating this deal I would probably push for a little more, but not so much that it would derail it. Well done, sir. We should be running these damn franchises. 🤝

Isles ongoing problem is not having guys who can put the puck in the net and we’re shipping Barzal off for a… LD? Is that right? And hoping that another team takes the bait on another LD fans have been trying to unload after he fell off due to concussions?

Fr, was a very respectable negotiation. Lou definitely isn't trading Barzal but hopefully our new GM considers it. I hope Buffalo ends its playoff drought with Barzal and the Isles are blessed with Hagens. A man can dream
