I like how he dodged the question of if we are a playoff team.

"Doug pitched me his vision for the future"
"As a coach, you coach for today but also coach for tommorrow"

Is this team a playoff team? "I'm a process oriented coach and don't think about tommorrow"

Lol
Basically saying no without being blunt about it. He definitely understands we aren't going to be good this year and he's here to develop us into a contender over the next few years.

Well, I'm late to this, but my initial thought is that this is a solid move. I do wonder if Steen signed off on it as well; he's going to be tied to the hip with Montgomery for the foreseeable future.

But Montgomery is a giant upgrade over Bannister, and I think we have the coaching staff around him to be better than we've been.

I’m sure Steen was involved and was okay with this decision. He’s familiar with Monty. Even though Steen didn’t play while Monty was an assistant here, he was still probably around the team a little bit to get to know him, and certainly would have gotten word from his (ex-) teammates on what they thought of him. All the players seem to love Monty so I doubt there were any concerns there.

I disagree strongly about Perunovich. He is only a regular because of our injuries on defence. Once we are healthy, he should absolutely not have a regular spot on this roster.

the fact that Thomas understands what is most important (real life) makes me want him as captain too

At least he didn't say "he's not my coach anymore" and brush off the question right?

Nice to hear the words from Thomas, but I'd expect most players to say something similar, including Schenner. But I think it's a pretty safe bet that Thomas will be the next captain of the Blues at some point in the future.

I like the move. Montgomery will take over the room that Bannister lost. Monty and Binny taking us deep in the playoffs. Can't wait !

I guess we’ll see the new coach bump and win a few meaningless games and draft around 15, and miss the playoffs of course

I was looking up Monty’s stats when he played with the Blues. I saw he only played 1 year. I thought he played a few. Then I realized it was Jim Cambell all along who I thought Monty was when he played for Blues. No idea why I thought that.

Was looking up Monty’s player stats today and saw he had over 100 points in two separate seasons in the AHL, pretty crazy.

Heard Ben Bishop on 101 espn and he said Monty has a super high hockey iq.

All part of Armstrong's genius plan. I can't wait until this core gets us another coach next winter.
