This is just such a heavy loss to take….

Just devastated right now.

Rest In Peace Borje, and condolences to his family.

Such a crushing sense of loss right now….😞

I'm so sad today.

He was the best. He's a legend.

_______

Do you think they'll retire his number? Have they already done it?

Yes, his number was retired on October 15, 2016, along with the following:

#1 - Turk Broda and Johnny Bower
#4 - Hap Day and Red Kelly
#7 - King Clancy and Tim Horton
#9 - Ted Kennedy and Charlie Conacher
#10 - Syl Apps and George Armstrong
#13 - Mats Sundin
#14 - Dave Keon
#17 - Wendel Clark
#27 - Frank Mahovlich and Darryl Sittler
#93 - Doug Gilmour

They joined the previously retired numbers of Bill Barilko (#5) and Ace Bailey (#6).

All but Keon's had been previously 'honoured' by being hung from the rafters, but only Barilko's and Bailey's had been retired. Bailey was hit from behind by Eddie Shore in December 1933, suffered a fractured skull, and never played again (the first all-star game was a benefit for him). Bill Barilko died in an airplane crash the summer after scoring the Cup winning goal in 1951.

RIP Borje, what a legend! Glad to see him back in TO 2 weeks ago - what a great sendoff! How fitting it was for a Leaf d man in Jordie Benn to score the game-winner that game!

It's a real shame that stupidly cruel Leaf management/ownership group tore apart that '79 team after they upset the Isles dynasty team in the playoffs...that Leaf team with Borje, Darryl and Lanny at it's core was pretty special!

Thanks for the heads up - can't wait to watch it.
Me either. Kind of ironic that he sent me the link last night. I'm sitting there thinking about what a bunch of pansies we have playing for us today, and I get reminded of the legendary Borje Salming who was as tough as an player that I've ever seen. That group never won the cup but they played their hearts out and you could be proud of the way they battled.
