I think you’re judging him with much more emotion than logic. Please, watch game 7 again and tell me his effort was there. This is all from the emotional bond of living him. If he wasn’t our player, and played that way after being up 3-1 in a series, we’d be dogging him. And we would be right too

I’ve watched the series, each game 3 times, because I get paid to do that. You can feel that I have little grasp of understanding this sport, but someone pays me for because they feel that I do.

I think the only advantage I have on most fans is that I’m able to separate my emotional bond to a player or team, and instead of have my an emotionally driven train of thought, I’m able to rely more on logic.

Someone pays Steve Simmons to write about hockey and we all know how much of an expert he is.

I'm not saying you're right or wrong, I'm saying being a writer doesn't automatically give you a better grasp on the game, it means you have a better way with words than most.

I like Matthews’ game way more away from Marner , just find they’re too predictable together now and league has it figured out.

He and Bunting seem to have great chemistry together and Kase is a seamless fit

Matthews just 4 goals away from taking the lead in the goal scoring. And he is 6th in points in the league after having a slow start and spotting lead both in goals and points to the entire league.

What a BEAST!

P.S. Kadri 4th in points; I wish he had such season with us when he was with us

It’s crazy how many players have a career year when they’re about to become a UFA, I’d assume it’s a once off.

I've said it so many times I've lost count - Toronto sports media is an entertainment business, period and anyone who takes what they produce seriously does so at their own peril.

I like that he plays a little simpler without Marner. If this is proof of concept that he can roll with Bunting and Kase or Simmonds sometimes, it would be great to see Marner return and see if we can seed a third scoring line with Marner doing his own thing. Depending on matchups we can spread it out offensively or if another situation calls you can load up the scoring and have enough left over for a few smothering checking options.

Obviously his shot has returned, but I like the way that he's adapted his game this year to scoring a lot by just hanging out at the front of the net.
And you can really see how much his wrist has progressed in his hands, first 10 games of the season his stick handling at speed was a little rough, and it's gone back to being absolutely elite.

He's looking good indeed, I wouldn't bet a nickel on him not winning the rocket this season. It seems like every time he's looking this good, something bad happens. Either he gets hurt so bad he's out of the lineup or he just looks off and we assume he's playing hurt. Really hope he's lucky enough to keep rolling from now until the end of the playoffs, other than Campbell he's by far the most important player on our team.

6g and 3 a in the last 5 games without Marner. Thought with missing the first three games, a wrist that was not 100%, Draisaitl and OV scoring goals at an amazing pace, his chance of winning the Rocket again was done. But here we are. Clearly the best goal scorer in the league.

Best skater in the league in 2021 in a 32 team league with the highest standards of training, diet, tactics and goaltending. Absolutely the best Leaf in history. Yeah, baby.

The best two-way goal scorer in NHL history and the best goal scoring center besides Gretzky and Lemieux. He’s an actual machine and extremely close to being the best player in the world when healthy.

He’ll always be second fiddle to McDavid, even though his defensive game bridges the gap significantly.

Just like Kopitar or Toews were in a second tier to Crosby, Malkin and Ovie.

The gap is not nearly that big though.
