Couldn't find the old one so feel free to delete if there's still another active one.

Slow start to the season. Hopefully doesn't end up having a Nylander-like season that year he missed training camp.

Great Great talent and player, Babs loved his talent and skill but did AM love Babs?

He needs to be better plain and simple

You want to be talked about like a generational player then go out and put up generational numbers

8 in 10, with spotty play where he hasn't been in sync with his linemates isn't good whatsoever. His season so far I'd rate a C. He can and needs to be the player he was last year

Don't care at all if he has a bit of a down year. Just show up and play better int he playoffs.

Over the last 2 weeks we have heard rumblings about his future in To from more reputable/rational sources.

Mirtle was saying he didn’t know if Austin would
End up staying. He seemed to think that it would be based on team succsss And it wouldn’t be a discount

CJ just went on his podcasts and said that Matthews is very interested in growing the game in Mexico/Spanish us markets. He said he knows that for a fact.

Kaplan reported that he has a whole
Media team with him and while he loves the US he is very excited about being the face of an original 6 team.

Originally I thought the bieber/massive TO market would keep him because the only real global brand in hockey is TO.

but if he is serious about not just being a big star but also the Latin component. He probably will want to go to the states. And honestly you can’t blame him for that.

I don’t see him thinking he can save the yotes. I could see LA or dallas. Or maybe anaheim? Chicago is 06 a top 3 market with a large Latin population. I don’t know if that helps with Mexican expansion.

my bet would be the kings. I honestly wonder if dubas realizes that this is there chance and if they blow it this year. He is the one who is gone. Not Mitch.

they better have an open line of communication with him. If he decides he wants to go south. Pull the plug and don’t let him walk.

Matthews is great but get this man some depth so we don’t have to always rely on him scoring.

At the end, it will depend on Team Success.
I really wonder will LA be an option in a few years.
Really don’t see anyone heading to the Hawks in the near future unless they start winning.
I think the fact that he gets to practice in the arena for the Yokes is a blessing is disguise bc he gets to compare the facilities between them and the Leafs.
Personally, I think Vegas will be the biggest competition if AM or anyone tests UFA. That team is brutal when it comes to loyalty to players, they will literally trade you away for nothing if they see a better bit on the market. I think players know that too but would still play there bc 1. Lower taxes 2. They win.

I really do wonder myself. I mean ultimately I still do and have always thought that the big market and the chance to be the all time leader of the most famous team in history is too big to pass up. But recently over the summer. Friedman. Mirtle. Johnson Kaplan have all made references to not knowing if he wants to be here and the idea of the Mexico market.

Ultimately. If you go down south you will be about as famous as the third person voted off a reality show. Even less. So that’s an issue for him.

but the nothern markets.
1.) Boston is rebuilding sooner or later Cheap owner

2.) detroit. Would have to be cup contender for him to consider
3.) NYR would be a priority but too many NMC. Kreider. Fox. Trouba zibby panarin. Too much to make it work

4.) Chicago will be going into a build. I could see that? They would want to make a splash. Kane and toews are getting old…. But Kane is Matty’s hero. Not sure.

the south markets

LA has the most peace’s. Some celeb credit. Huge Latin market and close to home. That’s a possibility.

byfield plus?

Arizona. Has no team. Can’t pay the bills might not have an arena. Would be pretty crazy to go home to that. He knows
The players there. He knows they couldn’t afford anything in the bubble. if he does want that. Then get on it early.

Vegas is like LA. Eichel. Stone. Petro all have NMC. Would be nuts. Also smaller not Latin market.

dallas. Going into a rebuild. Canadian owner.

anaheim close to LA. Has prices but they won’t front load.

I would say.

LA
Chicago
Anaheim
Dallas.

as the most likely IF he wants to go. IF he does. Then you have to talk and get the best package you can get

LA: byfield. Kempe 1?
Arizona: hope they get wright?
Chicago. The dach brothers?

they put Gretzky in L.A. to save the Kings

then they put Crosby in Pittsburgh to save the Pens

so if we follow the pattern...

add that to the very real possibility that maybe Matthews would prefer to be in a U.S. market where the weather is nice and warm and he can still party if that's his thing, then Toronto is looking like a cold, corporate place that puts a microscope on him and will eventually help his decision to leave (if he hasn't already decided to do so - it sure looks that way sometimes when he speaks with the media vultures)

I still say he's gone and there isn't much that can be done to keep him. His mind already looks made up

I think at the end it will be where the Leafs is in a few years.
I just don't see someone like AM will go to a team where it is rebuilding. Kind of like Stamkos when he hits UFA. Nomatter how promising the Leafs looked back then, it was an unknown.
Also, if AM is still thinking about parties and stuff by the time he hits UFA, I don't want someone like that to be the leaders of the Leafs.
I think this also applies to McD and Drai in Edmonton too.
If both the Leafs and Oilers can't past the first rounds in the playoffs the next few years, I just don't see any of them resigning with their current team.

If they are going to move him then they'll have to move him before his NMC kicks in. He's not going to agree to move to a team that will need to be gutted to accommodate his salary and his trade value.

I've always thought he will play in LA at some point in his career, maybe not necessarily his next contract. However, the Kings timeline definitely matches up where Matthews could be that final piece.

Ultimately it will depend where the Leafs are at in 3 years, if we're genuine contenders I don't see why he would leave, MLSE can offer him as much money as any other franchise.

if he wants to grow the sport in the Hispanic community like CJ Says. That is a realistic reason.
