i'll try to explain, i thought he was a great 3rd liner, but he was misused on the Leafs
...so, i dont as much hate him, personally, as i hate the way he was deployed in our lineup by playing in the top 6!

as long as he was on the Leafs they would always toss him on line one or two, and he utterly kills the offense (by doing his boardwork and never passing the puck back to Matthews/Marner which should have been his only true role), but, because he is seen as such a 'hard worker' he gets praised constantly, and called a puck recovery expert, (when he was the one who dumped it in the corner in the first place rather than pass it back to the skill) and he just leeched off the talent and built up a reputation as a 'good' player, when he is nothing more than a hard working 3rd liner, who was fortunate enough to always be paired with players who's talent far exceeds his own.

Ah, so you don't hate him after all, we can agree on that. I agree with parts of what you said, disagree with other parts but whatever, he's gone now so not important. Cheers!

How's that look?

Montreal is going to fight to even make the playoffs ...i'm not sure they finish above Ottawa, they are my surprise team this year, and Florida crashes back down to earth ...Boston is also too high. love you point totals for Buff/Det, so, not sure if this was a spoof post

Yeah, that isn't my prediction, I was just putting points next to someone's prediction.

I'm predicting the Leafs come back with an attitude and something to prove, and they prove it, and Tampa regresses as the wear and tear takes a toll.

The Leafs, perhaps. I dunno though, what they need to prove can't be proven during the regular season. TB, for sure. Not just wear and tear but the knowledge that the playoffs are what it's all about, the regular season is all but irrelevant so the smart move for them is to just coast to the playoffs, and then kick it into high gear.

You're the one asking why these numbers aren't "reversed", you tell me.

yea, i dont hate him, just the way he was used, and he would have continued to be used that way as long as he was on the Leafs, so, i'm glad he's gone, and just hope they dont try to use Bunting in the same role.
I will be watching some oilers games just to see the expression on McDavid's (and Drais) face when he wastes an entire shift waiting for a pass that will never come, while Hyman has the puck pinned against the boards for the entire shift, until he finally gets it free and then tries to take a shot himself (and misses) rather than pass.

They can't prove they are good in the playoffs without making the playoffs ... ;-)

No I think they can prove in the regular season that they are headed in the right direction.

I didn't buy into this team this year at all.

I called them a mirage and that's what they turned out to be.

This is the best representative of what the Leafs actually are under Keefe.
Of course there is the PP and 2 total chokes in the playoffs where Keefe did nothing to try and get M&M away from the other teams top lines.
That is also what the Leafs are under Keefe

They looked pretty great in the last regular season, then up 3-1 in the 1st round and then the bottom fell out. I don't care how good they look next season, until they win at least one round, it could be yet another mirage.

Imo the odds are higher Montreal follows what happens to the Stars and misses the post season after a fluke cup appearance

Statistics for the past year are meaningless for a number of reasons...one being very obvious.

Cool, so then everyone putting Florida ahead of us is based on what exactly?

Because prior to this past season Florida is very clearly behind us.

In 2019-20 when the season was cut short to roughly 70 games, the difference was 3 points but Florida had a game in hand when both played in the Atlantic.

Standings
Toronto Maple Leafs ...70 games .. 36 wins 25 losses 9 OTL .. 81 points with GF 238 and GA 227
Florida Panthers........... 69 games .. 35 wins 26 losses 8 OTL .. 78 points with GF 231 and GA 228

Pretty close and what would have happened if the season had completed in the last 12-13 games?

If you combined the last 2 partial season together ..

Toronto Maple Leafs .... 126 games 71 wins 39 losses 16 OTL = 158 points with GF: 425 & GA: 375
Florida Panthers............. 125 games 72 wins 40 losses 13 OTL = 157 points with GF: 420 & GA: 381

PS.
2020-21 Award finalists

Jim Gregory General Manager of Year Award finalists announced Marc Bergevin of Canadiens, Lou Lamoriello of Islanders & Bill Zito of Panthers in running for honor given to best NHL GM.

Jack Adams coach of the year finalists Rod Brind'Amour of Carolina Hurricanes, Dean Evason of Minnesota Wild & Joel Quenneville of Florida Panthers in running for honor given to best NHL coach.

People do know that Weber and Price will likely be missing for a few months, right. Also they lost their #1 shutdown C.
I just don't see Habs even making it close.
I think the chances of the Habs winning the lottery is higher than beating the Leafs for a playoffs spot(barring injuries).

Tavares is aging and coming off a devastating concussion

Matthews is injury prone and coming into the season just recovering from surgery

Campbell is used of playing 20 games a season.

3rd and 4th lines are awful.

There are tons of question marks with the Leafs.

Leafs were also not playing great at that time. If I recall the season ended shortly after that brutal trip through California.

The Leafs have never been higher than 3rd in the Atlantic always behind TB and Boston.

When last we left the Atlantic due the pandemic shortened season Boston were the Presidents trophy winners and Tampa Bay the Stanley Cup winners and Florida Panthers nipping at our heals.
