The lie is in calling a 78pt pace the same as an 89pt pace.

And again, why did you choose to make the middle section 24gms, and the 3rd section 23gms? Why not the reverse?

Ah.......so the actual 3 point difference between the first 23 & last 23 becomes a an 11 point difference when you multiply it by 3.56. So my lie is using the real numbers without any manipulation......got it.

As far as the game breakdown .....1st 23, last 23.......pretty simple Zeke

The Leafs have been a 105pt pace team in 103gms under Keefe. Even with the starting goalie faceplanting spectacularly.

Definitely impressive regular season numbers. I just need to see it again against 31 other teams because last year's realignment most likely contaminates the numbers IMO.

As things stand, I have no idea what to expect from the supposed top 4 teams from the Atlantic:

TB lost it's 3rd line, Johnson and Savard
Leafs lost Hyman, Bogo and Andersen
Bruins lost Krejci and Rask
Can Florida repeat last year or are they a fraud ??

I don't think the loss of Andersen is a big deal but I think we will miss Bogo and Hyman. There was discussion here before the playoffs comparing Tarares, Nylander and Hyman and there was no clear consensus on which of these guys were most important to the success of of the team. Now that Hyman's gone, it's hilarious to see how many people are saying that he's easily replaceable and how you can plug in any random player next to M&M and get the same results.:laugh:

Reminder of what happened this past year when the real season started:

Three teams in our division won in the 1st round of the playoffs and two of them made it to the final. We lost in the first round, as usual.

This thread seems to be discussing regular season projections.

The concern with Florida is both goaltending and that Verhaege and others don't repeat their career years. That is offset by the addition of Reinhart - who is a really good add for them.

Goaltending is voodoo so trying to predict it year to year can be difficult. Florida lost their best performing goaltender this offseason though. If Bob plays like he did last year and Knight can't shoulder a significant portion of the load and play well - they could be in trouble. Otherwise though - theyre a well put together team.
Well, its true that Driedger's leaving could have an impact.

But, you also have to assume that their goaltending is going to be dreadful (or minimally quite bad) before that has an impact. I'm honestly wondering about our goaltending as well, and hopefully the new Campbell/Mrázek tandem is as good as we hope it will be. Like you say, things can happen with goaltending, so its pretty much always going to be a variable. I guess we'll find out eventually.

Recall the same people calling him a plug now were also “plugging” Hyman into every line that was struggling throughout the last two years. Now he’s a dime a dozen replacement, when he was seen as a line catalyst. The intellectual pretzels people put themselves into to rationalize every move the team makes is fascinating. Hyman will be missed, he isn’t easily replaced, it’s a net negative he’s gone, deal.

I've said for years that Hyman is replaceable (i will honestly say he is the player i most hated on the team) and i expect much better results from M&M unless the coach tries to give then another Hyman. they need a player that needs to be covered and is a threat to either score, or pass (Hyman was neither)
I dont think the Leafs are done with signings yet, there are still too many quality UFA's out there and too many teams with no cap space, so, some teams will get 1 year $1mil bargains and i them to likely be TB, Tor, Bos, and Col unless Det/NJD/Buf toss some of their cap space around

That’s mind blowing.

That's what keeps bringing me back. It would make for a fascinating study for any psychology student.

Yes your lie is in calling two very different records the same.

And again, why did you choose 23 24 23 instead of 23 23 24?

9-10-4 & 11-9-3 are not "two very different records" to any rational person. The first is a game under (NHL) .500 and the second is 2 games over .500. ( 22 pts vs 25 pts) So perhaps you can refrain from accusing me of lying.

You can read the post you quoted again for the answer to your question.

Your paraphrasing is not more accurate than the actual numbers, no matter how many times you repeat the lie.

And again - why did you choose 24 and 23 instead of 23 and 24?

  1. I have no idea what you mean by "Your paraphrasing is not more accurate than the actual numbers"
  2. I have answered your question multiple times.

1. You posted actual numbers. They mean something. Your paraphrase of how similar they are is false - i.e. a lie.

2. you have not answered the question even once.

what I said was after the "honeymoon" period under Keefe
"Honeymoon" periods don't exist, and even if they did, there would be no reason to think they exist for specifically 24 games. You refused to use the whole sample under Keefe. You refused to use the whole sample under Keefe that season (in fact, calling people biased for doing so). You refused to use the most representative portion of the season under Keefe that season. Instead, you took the least representative 23 games of Keefe's tenure, where we were completely decimated to injury and our starting goalie imploded, and suggested that that was somehow the best reflection of what we were.
There was discussion here before the playoffs comparing Tarares, Nylander and Hyman and there was no clear consensus on which of these guys were most important to the success of of the team.
Lmao. Tavares and Nylander are clearly more important to this team.

Why did you hate him?
i'll try to explain, i thought he was a great 3rd liner, but he was misused on the Leafs
...so, i dont as much hate him, personally, as i hate the way he was deployed in our lineup by playing in the top 6!

as long as he was on the Leafs they would always toss him on line one or two, and he utterly kills the offense (by doing his boardwork and never passing the puck back to Matthews/Marner which should have been his only true role), but, because he is seen as such a 'hard worker' he gets praised constantly, and called a puck recovery expert, (when he was the one who dumped it in the corner in the first place rather than pass it back to the skill) and he just leeched off the talent and built up a reputation as a 'good' player, when he is nothing more than a hard working 3rd liner, who was fortunate enough to always be paired with players who's talent far exceeds his own.

2. you have not answered the question even once.

  1. If you want to assert that two 23 game samples the produced 22 & 25 points are very dissimilar that is your prerogative. Accusing me of lying because I disagree with that viewpoint is over the line.
As for #2, I disagree and believe I have made every reasonable effort to address your question, so I believe I will stop here.

Part 1 - 23 games under Babcock
Part 2 - First 24 under "brand new" coach Keefe
Part 3 - Final 23 games under "more familiar" Keefe
Not arbitrary at all......70 game season........23 games for Babs (.500ish) , the first 24 games for Keefe (.700ish), the final 23 games for Keefe (.500ish)
One of those things is not like the others.
Babcock coached for 23 games.......that was the baseline.
Conveniently, the 70 game season split almost equally into 3 equal 23 game segments (1 extra)
I looked at their record for the first 23 games, the last 23 games and the middle 24. (using all games)
9104Seg 1
1662Seg 2
1193Seg 3

Everyone understands but shockingly two.
Perhaps we can just leave it now?

4th 28gms: 117pts pace
This is the best representative of what the Leafs actually are under Keefe.
