I’d pass on Soto and go after Guerrero and obviously Casas would be going to Toronto

Then I go after Crochet

I proposed a trade earlier this season, prior to Vladdy getting hot. He is a player that would excel playing at Fenway.
I proposed Casas and Anthony for Vladdy and Chad Green.
Make this trade, sign a #1 starter, sign Soto, and a decent LH reliever and we are done.

Thought exercise: Adames, Arenado or Bregman at 3B. Although, I could see them sign Adames for 2B. Trade Yoshida for Arenado (Bloom might bite). Deal Casas for a young top of the rotation starter. A Casas deal only makes sense if the Sox know they are signing a middle of the order bat. I don’t like trading Casas, but I understand the rationale if the above happens.

Casas goes for a young top of the line pitcher. Sox sign one of Snell and Fried.

Don’t like the deferred money on Arenado’s contract.

Oh he’s immediately hitting 40+ homers next year if they do it. I think he has rare power and would think it’s a mistake to move him- I would prefer moving Devers to DH and moving Yoshida + sweeteners in any deal for Arenado. And then sign pitchers.

I truly hope we get the #1 LH starter we need so badly, the RH power bat and add some pieces in the pen.

I would not be trading Casas, unless we are getting an everyday player back in the deal.
We have an excess of LH batters, especially in the OF, turn some of those assets into pitching and RH power.
Yoshida would be the first player I would look at moving....add a player or two and trade him to the Mariners for Castillo.

This is why they met with Soto, told everyone how well it went, and informed agents that they not only want to sign one of the marquee free-agent pitchers in Corbin Burnes, Max Fried and Blake Snell, but actually want to sign two. They are adamant on signing at least one lefty between Fried and Snell.

“The Red Sox also have strong interest in All-Star free-agent shortstop Willy Adames, who is willing to move to third base. They would love to free up even more money by dumping outfielder Masataka Yoshida, but are finding limited demand with the three years, $55.6 million left on his contract.

Am I the only one that are unimpressed with these infield names? Maybe their defense if great but the offense is pretty meh compared to Casas' potential. Most seem to be on the decline.

For me, I'm just going to have to wait until their roster is complete before deciding how I feel.

Granted, Arenado/Adames aren't going to lead them to a title alone -- but if they do sign two of those top pitchers and get either of those guys for 3rd base, and BEST CASE -- trade Masa, so Devers can DH and Casas stays at 1B -- I'll be pretty happy.
