Considering the talent he inherited, Kyle Dubas is the worst hire in the history of the franchise. Said this when he was hired and hoped I'd be wrong. Unfortunately he's been even worse than I imagined (figured with so much talent he'd at least win a round or two by accident)

Nobody should be suprised that someone with zero competitive experience hasn't been able to calculate the formula for winning at the highest level in the most competitive and intense environment. He never had a chance. Kyle Dubas has been asked to map something he's never seen, to a place he's never been. I still can't fathom why anyone thought this map was gong to lead them to success.

No identity, no direction, and very little time until the best player in franchise history can walk as a free agent.

Tick-tock, tick-tock.
I couldn't have said it better. Loser hire that only losers supported. Anyone with half a brain and hockey experience could see this disaster coming.

I can't wait for the Leafs to rid themselves of this clown and the circus he's built. Its a shame the best player this franchise has ever seen had to have his time here wasted because of it

It is the strangest thing, loyalty to some suit over the team. I’ve never seen anything like it.
He is a HERO to all da spreadsheet and computer analytics geeks who never played and see themselves rising up .. it is not really hard to figure it out .. and some of those guys are sitting in da large corporate platinum section expensing off all their expenses .. you can see them at Hot stove too they usually sit by themselves in groups and while us guys in jerseys get our bills 15 minutes before puck drop they are having another glass of win and going to seats 10 minutes into game .. probably checking out all da stats and assessing analytics for fun

This is such a weird take. Dubas isn't even a very analytical GM, or at least his decisions don't seem to be rooted in the stuff available to us.

Liking stats does not mean you're a Dubas fan boy.

What tangible things do you see that makes this team hard to play against?
For some, hitting and punching people are the only things they think about when discussing how hard it is to play against someone, but they seem to forget that we're here to play hockey, and as a top tier team, most would consider us a difficult matchup.

We're one of the many teams that aren't going to go out there looking for fights and trying to cause injuries, and some with that singular focus incorrectly label us "soft" and "easy to play against" because of that, but we've shown time and time again that we can answer to that style of play when necessary as well.

I think people need to watch a little bit more of other teams and with a bit more objective eye if they think what we are and what we're experiencing is unique. It seems some are in a rush to label us by our worst games because getting rid of the guy in charge they dislike is more important than the success of the team.
I said insiders, hockey people, players, have repeatedly said we are soft, it’s our universal rep around the league.
Your statement was that the universal opinion of the entire league is that we are soft, which is of course not true, and not something you can speak on in the first place.
Sharks had Hall and Oates blasting in their dressing room last night after the win.
I'm not sure why anybody would care about what music the Sharks play in their dressing room?
I wonder how many posters will disappear into the good night after Dubas is canned.
I doubt anybody will leave. The people dumping on Dubas will likely just continue dumping on the team in other ways.

That was nice, can you answer the questions

A ship cuts through the sea at full mast, its great blue sails rippling in the wind. The ship's towering mast and brilliant sails inspire respect to all those who cross its path. Buoyed by this respect, the captain begins to salvage wood from the bottom of this ship to improve the mast, to make the ship faster. He starts slowly, a couple repurposed logs. He doesn't understand the shipbuilder's blueprint, so he tosses it into the ocean. His officers and crew cheer him on, telling him he's doing a great job, when he's begun to go down the path of insanity. He begins to take more and more logs from the bottom of the ship until the mast's height causes the rest of the ship to sway dangerously and leaks begin to erupt in the hull. Now some of the crew begin to grow worried, but they are told that this ship is ready for war; it doesn't make any sense but as the ship slowly begins to slip inches deeper into the ocean, the captain stands proudly at the front with his first mate, Sheldon, aboard a doomed brigantine.

I agree. So many fans and people in the media are completely fooled by Shanny/Kyle's propaganda: "We were close" / "We feel for the fans". Close? You never won a f***ing round! You feel for the fans!? You did nothing in the offseason to change the team: same coach and same main pieces. What burns me so bad is Shanny. What a fool. The way he went against his own principles and watched Kyle mess up this team. Shanny knows what a winning team looks like! It doesn't look like ZAR, Engvall, NAK, and Malgin! How could he sit back and allow this?
I really believe this whole mess is due to Shanny. He was the one who was so enamored by the Russian 5's skill when he played with the wings. It took some time for them to click and that's why he keeps giving Dubas rope. I think Dubas has changed his views on having all skill to at least realizing you can't do that in todays game-yet.

Shanny is the guy who was proud of our guys for not getting involved in scrum tactics and letting our PP be our enforcer...look how that worked out. I have never seen a GM or President actually cheer for his team to get face-washed after plays and not retaliate. We could be instigating those face-washes but instead we just sit there and take it.

I really do believe Shanny is the bigger problem, although, both should be gone to make this thing workable in the future.

Everything on this team SCREAMS corporate ownership. From the on ice product to the in game entertainment and production everything is risk averse and family friendly.

Ownership is more concerned with keeping things family friendly and PG so the brand reaches further.

I'd even argue the way this team plays is a result of ownership. There's no way this ownership group would support a mean heavy team.
BINGO!

I still maintain at least 15 games need to be allowed before a massive move like this is justified. They gave Babcock 20 games and we knew he should be fired end of game 7 the year before. I personally have been a Dubas supporter his time here. Even if I disagreed sometimes I could understand WHY he was making the move. He wasn't going out there and offering Gudbranson 4x4 for example. It was a nice change from our past GM's who did just that.

But with all of that said, it is time for the Leafs to realize that while these games are meaningless (I suspect this is why their effort has been so poor, they know even if they won people don't care right now) we need to make the playoffs to prove people wrong and we are not in a good division to half ass that.

Before the season our management said the goal is to win the division, win the presidents trophy, and then the cup. So far the players are not on the same page. So if they keep playing like this, then yeah it sucks to say but we need a GM to come in and have time to evaluate things in season so next offseason they are prepared to get Matthews dealt with and then address the team as they see.

One thing even the biggest haters need to be thankful for with Dubas is he has this team setup really well. They have all their future firsts, some nice young players in Robertson, Knies, Sandin, and Liljegren in no order. You have stars in their primes. You have no real cap commitment past next season, so the GM is free to shape the roster as they wish with total freedom from the cap. And our scouting and development side has been excellent under Dubas and those systems are in place already so they don't need to try and re-invent the wheel in many parts of the Org that operate efficiently.

I suspect the natural reaction is to fire Dubas and bring in a GM who is older and experienced. They will do what NYR did and acquire and overpay a bunch of tough depth guys in one offseason to try and change the stereotype they were soft. How this goes is anyones guess. Mine is poorly, as it usually goes when you acquire bad players for toughness. I'd be impressed if they were able to acquire heavy players who could also play.

TL;DR: Dubas deserves another 10 games to see what happens and if they pull out of the funk, and if he is fired, I get it, and the team is setup almost perfectly for a new GM to change everything as they see fit with our abundance of cap space after next season

I think you're quoting one.

One of his other buddies in the GDT last night threw a hissy fit about people not blindly supporting the team too.

Their fanship is literally tied to the GM running this team.
100 percent correct. There’s a small group of those exact posters. Most of us have them on ignore now.
