It's likely the first time in the salary cap ers there are 4 actual top 4 D men in the group.

And in that time we've had about 5 other GMs, each having multiple drafts, free agency periods and trades opportunities to do something similar and didn't. Perhaps its harder to do than you think...
Yet we basically still have the same team as we have had every year for the last 5 season and no playoff success

I'm plenty critical of Dubas, such as with the Foligno trade, his choice in targetting Barrie, and the signing of Mrazek. Just because I'm not frothing at the mouth to have him fired does not mean I think he's infallible. You however don't seem to think he's done anything good at all.

And, not for nothing, if you want actual proof about Shanahan's involvement with the drafting of Nylander, here's an article from the Globe and Mail on the subject.
What do you think of his trading for Murray 1 game

Can we please start with Keefe now? They have clearly learned nothing from every mistake that kills them in the playoffs. Why waste another year with the prize being a handshake with the glint of respect in an opponents eye, which might have been a tear of laughter at our interim coach?

If not for Dubas, Sault St. Marie would not have the lowest unemployment rate in Canada, and Tonka Bay, MN would not have seen its median income quadruple

Depth sucks scoob let's make a move.

Crossing my fingers Bunting can at least go back to being a top 6 by merit (if he ever was one by merit)

Dubas gotta be sweating even this early. Murray already out as well, there is no way he looks down on the ice and likes what he sees. I'm sure if he had the flexibility to make moves he would but he doesn't so he's left hoping what's down there is good enough.

Fire Dubas, he ruined a potential dynasty....cant even get a first round win. Paying Tavares 6.5 million more than Kadri to upgrade on 2c put this team in cap hell and has impacted every other position on this squad. The bottom 6 is unknown year to year. Same with the top 6 wingers, team cant afford it. Goaltending is a major issue still. 5 goalies played last year for this team, 4 the 2 previous years. This year its already 3 goalies in 4 games. No one knows who the starter will be this year in the playoffs if we make it, or next year when the season starts. Its a joke.

Muzzin 5.6 , Tavares 11, Kerfoot 3.5, Murray 4.6 is not a good way to spend 24.7 million on the cap.

The Soo still has more to give guys, don’t get down. “The legend lives on, from the Chippewa down….”
There's a point in a young executive's career where he has move on from his past and start populating an NHL roster with something other than former Soo Greyhounds. In this case the executive can move on to using former Toronto Maple Leafs.

No way he gets picked up by another team to be their GM. He'll have to go down a level or two.

Dunno how anyone can think 11 mil on Tavares is bad when so many teams including us have more than 11 mil tied up in garbage we want to free up. Guys been our best player and opened up the ice for Nylanders skillset to feast. Well worth the penalty cost to get him via cheating (once in lifetime Ufa)

Also reminder this team chose to give up Kadri as 3C we werent forced by the cap to give it up. There was nothing holding us back from keeping a team 3 centers deep even with 2 making 11 mil. We could have kept Kadri as 3C at his new cap hit too since the quality of depth they seem to like can be had for 1 mil or less so the remaining spots are easy to fill.

The two riskiest major elements of the team already taken down by injury (Murray and Muzzin), no 3rd goaltender available to play on the depth chart, the organizational defense depth decimated by injuries and the coach of the team seeming to be oddly on edge for so early in the season. I never would have guessed that this much adversity would have developed in the first week of the season.

Plenty of opportunity for Dubas to fix holes on this team. This last offseason was a good one for it.
At this point Dubas is wasting talent.

This is Leafland. Nothing new here.

Now we may be looking at trading mathews to Arizona for Bedard
A deal Arizona will do .
That is the reality of dubas in toronto
His successor has to blow up a decent te

The issues are and have been so obvious with this group for years now. Trying to run it back with the same group basically isn’t working and replacing 4th line bargain bin players isn’t going to all of a sudden fix everything.

Instead of this team trending upwards with players like Matthews, Marner and Nylander entering their prime years, it seems like this team keeps taking small steps backwards.

We have major holes in literally every position now, goaltending, defence and forwards. How can you really believe you’re a true Stanley Cup contender having that?

When 34 does not score, this is a .500 team.

When this season goes predictably sideways when his genius goalie tandem fails he will be fired, and rightfully so.
Ya, weird decisions regarding goaltenders for sure or just letting it get to that situation.

But, they need to get rid of Shanahan and Dubas versus just having the one convenient scape goat.

When 34 does not score, this is a .500 team.
I really wonder what AM will think if this season goes sideways because of let's say goaltending issues? I wonder if that doesn't make the grass a little greener elsewhere?

It’s not even whether Matthews scores or not. There’s no fight, no urgency, no heart to stand up for one another in this group.

It’s starting to seem like a disaster all around. Last nights game for example, I was shocked to see our first PP unit go back on to start the fourth powerplay after going three without even a shot on net… Regardless if they scored later on or not, what kind of message does that give to the rest of the players on this team? Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares and Rielly can literally shit the bed and still be given almost all of the powerplay time next opportunity.

Not only does it send a bad message to the rest of the players, it gives those five players all the power. They know even if they don’t preform they’ll still be given all the ice time they want.

Still early but I’m starting to loose faith in Keefe slowly.
