ATD 2013 Summary

Biggest Steal(s) of the draft: Bernie Geoffrion, dont know why he gets taken after Kurri and Charlie Coancher
Biggest Reach(es) of the draft: Konstantinov, its just too soon for him and I loved the guy! HM: Laraque and Högosta.
Smartest/best strategic pick in the draft: hmm... VanIs double drafting of Weiland & Aurie
Biggest blunder selection of the draft: Drafting Laraque.. I mean wtf?
A Player finally getting respect in the draft: No idea
A player always taken too high, finally getting picked where he should in the draft: No idea
A player you've discovered in this draft: Didnt really discover anyone per se.
Most underrated player taken: In my experience, euros, specially those who are claimed to be soft and one dimensional or the ones that didnt play much or at all in the NHL.
Most overrated player taken: Most modern players...
Favorite scoring line of the draft: Michel Goulet - Wayne Gretzky - Bernie Geoffrion
Favorite checking line of the draft: Herbie Lewis - Cooney Weiland - Larry Aurie
Best assembled line of the draft: Aurele Joliat - Howie Morenz - Jack Walker
Worst assembled line of the draft: Metz - Malkin - Mayorov
Favorite pairing of defensemen: Hod Stuart - Earl Seibert
Most puzzling pairing of defensemen: Kelly - Grant
Team in the other conference it'd be interesting to meet in the finals: Velos or Overpass teams are intresting to me
Team in the other conference you wouldn't want to meet in the finals: I wouldnt want to meet their teams tho

For those of you who take the time to read what I posted on Grant, it would solve any issue.

Not strong feeling at all but he definitly stands out of all the picks imo.

There is a big difference between being the worst player of the draft, which Laraque probably is, and the worst blunder of the draft, which he is far from being. Georges is awaiting your retort.

... I think Laraque might end up with more PIMS than TOI in the season, though as the team doesn't otherwise have a "true heavyweight", I do see the logic in having him around, and am not planning to drop him. ...
Did you take over Reen's team? :help:

Does anyone actually read the bios?:help:

I don't think you can expect everyone to carefully read every bio that's out there and digest the information; it's just too much. I think the point of bio'ing every player is to have the information at hand if someone questions something.

I think now would be a good time to re-make a case for Liba.

- Georges Laraque was selected? Thank goodness I don't keep deadly poisons in my house or I might have swallowed some.

- interesting, who knew our spare forward on our championship aaa 2012 team was actually our best player? Or that my spare from mld2012 would be the only player picked from that team?

There was a claim he was the best fighter ever. I don't know about that. Here's some enforcers who were picked or undrafted. Was Larauque a better, more skilled player than McSorley or Domi?

714 LW Bob Probert
746 LW Dave "Tiger" Williams
777 RW George Larauque
793 D Marty McSorley
Undrafted RW Tie Domi

Dang, was Gillies really that poor of a selection in the 6th? Would love to hear from someone on why.

Im not sure what Clark Gillies poccess over teammate John Tonelli. Even if he is indeed the better player, the difference should be minimal.

Actually, the question should be: what does Clark Gillies poccess that maes him a decent selection in the 6th round. Hes a great glue-guy, but he doesn't stand out from other glue-guy who are getting picked 80 picks later, plus you're missing out on incredible hockey player in the 6th round: Barry, Propp, Schriner, Leclair, Dye etc .....

Probably?

Probably?

Heh...well, Georges is not on an ATD team anymore, but he's obviously worse than anybody in the draft other than maybe the random 25th round Europeans whose names I don't recognize. Those guys could go either way. But at any rate, I had fun trolling a bit with Laraque, but I've dropped him for Patrick Sundstrom, which ought to make seventies happy.

Been a while since I've been around these parts.

The Triple-G line (Goulet-Gretzky-Geoffrion) is sick.

Laraque..eh..not the biggest blunder but definitely the worst player. He is still probably the worst skater I have ever seen.

Might add a few comments later to see how the draft played out. Nice work. Will probably be back for the MLD since school will be done when it starts.

Apart from Reds last two selections, whom I just have no clue who they are (been lazy to look them up, are they real players?), I'm much certain that Laraque is the worst player taken in this draft. We're here to select players to make a championship teams, but hopefully at the back of our mind we're not forgetting that we are embracing the history of the game and the players that was part of it. Laraque shouldn't be on an ATD team for that reason alone (and, well, the obvious lack of skills at this level)

I honestly prefer Reen's pick of the Montreal Forum over Laraque :D

And yes, I saw you guys dropped him. Good on ya!

Good to see you around Chaos, hopefully you'll participate in the minor league draft and the future installment of the ATD!

The worst skater I ever saw is Peter Worrell. In a Habs sweater, George, absolutely.

Yeah..I think I needed a draft off to enjoy this again. I expect to take future drafts a lot more seriously...it just came to a point where I got bored of it by the end which isn't like me when it comes to history of hockey.

Worrell was also terrible, I forgot about him.

And Bobrov fell to the 24th! Everything is proceeding as you have foreseen it...

I think Bobrov in the 24th is probably a steal, but he is extremely difficult to use. I think you could definitely make a second line with Bobrov on it and it somehow be effective. It'd have to be something like Bobrov-Primeau-Taylor or something like that? Two guys who work well without the puck, Taylor can do work in the corners, and Bobrov will score? Something along those lines. Although I feel like you might need a better RW for it to be super effective.

Bobrov should be a scoring line player in the MLD, IMO.

He's something like Kovalchuk in that you pretty much have to build a line around his weaknesses, and I don't think he's worth it. Heck, I probably wouldn't have thought Kovalchuk was worth it in 2011.
