Assassin's Creed Shogun™.

The sooner it's out the more it'll likely be based on previous games. They should just forget Valhalla ever existed.

I guess they have a few months to optimize but I'm surprised it looks nearly graphically identical to say Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I liked Odyssey for exploring classical Greek style architecture and landscapes but didn't really enjoy Valhalla all that much in the end so I'll probably skip this. I could see it being worth it if they put a lot of effort into feudal Japan, the various landmarks, your average house for different classes of people from peasants to nobility and that's your thing.

I think its the same development team as Odyssey so that's probably why.

I've been wanting this setting for well over a decade so I'm thrilled with this. I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to this series, although Valhalla was not one of my favorites, but everything I've heard sounds promising.

wow a game set in feudal Japan we definitely don’t already have a million pieces of media set in this exact setting these days.

10 years too late Ubisoft.

Much like Valhalla it seems they’re just following trends now.

What was wrong with Valhalla, didnt read anything on problems
A large open world that felt devoid of life, not much to see or do beside repetitive puzzles that didn't really contribute to their environment. On the plus side the game did go a long way explaining the ancients background story, but personally I've never been a fan of that part and so the historical medieval side of the story on its own felt too weak.

After Gamergate and all that I'm all for having a diverse set of characters in video games, we certainly didn't get that 10 years ago, but in Valhalla or presumably now in Shadows that's getting a bit much for the historical setting. I know Yasuke is loosely based on a historical person, but a black man and a woman as the main warrior characters in Sengoku period Japan, really?

Assassin's Creed is the franchise that should have done India already (Chronicles doesn't count), a huge missed opportunity.
I said the same thing. A setting that has not been explored much in most media.

Feudal Japan has been done to death, especially recently.

During the Q&A portion of the interview, he also revealed that many of the people working at Ubisoft on the Assassin’s Creed franchise have no experience with the franchise.

He said, “One of the things that I’ve noticed since the pandemic is that we have a lot of juniors in our teams. … Probably half the team that’s building Assassin’s Creed is building a game for the first time.”

“So they don’t know,” he continued. “Even though they’re playing the game right now and they think it’s the worst thing they’ve ever seen, it’s going to be good. We’re going to get there.”
Half of the team has never made a game before, much less an AC game, and think that it's the worst thing that they've ever seen, but he's confident that it'll be good when it releases in only 3 months.

oh man, Ubisoft can't get anything right these days.

I read there's going to be a new "chapter" or something in the modern timeline and f***ing why? The worst part of any AC game is the modern bullshit, no one cares
I've been playing Odyssey recently and I literally googled how to skip the modern timeline pieces as fast as possible.

Really? I thought ACII was by far the best because of both stories converting together. I loved Enzo, Desmond, and Lucy. It sucks that they decided not to follow through with them as main characters to continue the storyline, made it really, really anti-climatic when Lucy dies and nothing else happens.

So true.

Black Flag was literally almost a perfect game for me, aside from that garbage.
Black Flag is still one of the best games I've ever played. I'd love for them to make another sailing-driven game. Whichever the one was in the North Atlantic after that was okay, but not as fun as the open Caribbean seas of Black Flag. I never played the Viking one with the long ships but I know that was a feature and wasn't the focal point.

Also fully concur on the modern segments being the worst part of any AC game. Every time I'm getting into exploring the historical world, you get pulled out to run around with this asshole Desmond to find out about some mythical bullshit of ancient goddesses controlling the world through Golden apples or something dumb like that

I accidentally bought Black Flag as a Polish-only version, although I do speak the language oh boy was it immersion-breaking... Still a highlight of the series nonetheless.

One of the main reasons I could never get fully immersed in these games.

The modern day assassin story should've died alongside Desmond. After that it felt like the Devs kept trying to shoehorn it in and it just got more and more confusing

It's because that's the exact point Ubisoft ran out of ideas for the series as a whole.

They ran out of ideas because Ubisoft focuses on releasing these games out as fast as possible.

They apparently plan to release 10 new games before 2030 which is completely insane. There is no place for creativity or originality when the employees are beholden to such a schedule.
