Some of us probably remember this:
Took boxing lesssons in his early NHL years and knew Canadian heavyweight George Chuvalo.

Okay, maybe he doesn't have to got that far but ...
Engvall could be like Wilson if he wasn’t such a wimp.

We win the division next year and have to face a surprisingly good Wild Card Buffalo team in round 1 and get bounced again in 7.

Dubas is very clearly learning on the job with the Leafs and his mistakes have been costly but I fully understand that when he is fired and gets a new job they will be getting a much better GM than the one who the Leafs hired in 2018 and he might actually get into the top 5 GM’s one day. In 10 years he’ll have nearly 15 years experience at an age (46) where most people are breaking into the GM role.
He'll still be here. He's got a rolling "one more year" agreement with his bosses

One year ago we lost to the Habs with a 4th line of Jumbo Spezza and Foligno. This year we lost with a 4th line of Kase Blackwell and Spezza.

You are not alone when you say you want a "Revamped 4th line; energy, speed, tenacity". Unfortunately Dubas is making it up as he goes, picking up whatever he sees fit from the bottom of the dumpster.

After the CBJ loss, Shanny said we needed to be harder to play against. Three years later, with Dubas' answer to being tougher to play against Cliffy and Simmonds, sitting in the pressbox we watched Engvall shy away from Hagel, Tavares refuse to engage, Willie pull up, and Perry and Maroon mess with Matty.

I'm not holding my breath that Dubas can get 95% on this summer's exam.
Dubas will forgo any chance of signing a Devante Smith-pelley or similar players for God knows what reason. He is fixated on if the 4th line can contribute on the score sheet and is blind to the fact they can help wear down the other team and help out that way. You can lead a horse to water....

I would like to see the team show up in the playoffs and win a round or two. They should be capable. But statistically and historically they haven’t. So I expect a solid team in the regular season and a first round exit. Anything else would be a shocker.

What is your definition of all in?

I don't really see more all in than what they've already done.

Here's an option:

Nylander, Mrazek, 2022 1st., 2023 1st., prospect
for
Scheiffele, Hellebuyck 50% retention

And I don't give two hoots about people perception of Scheiffele's attitude.
I've been wanting to get Hellebuyck but was hesitant on what the price tag would be! Most things I've been reading an hearing about was Gibson as a target an I don't think he would be the answer to our tender situation! Now adding Scheiffele to the mix wouldn't be the worst thing the leafs could do and adding some attitude wouldn't be bad either !!! Who knows but I agree it's worth a try!!!

Main thing for me is that going all in to win a cup means to go all-in to get a goalie that is less of a dice roll, so above would definitely apply for me.

I expect them to win the presidents trophy then be huge favourites in the first round against a team like Buffalo or Detroit, we win the first 3 games and once again they get our hopes up. Then Matthews gets injured and we end up losing the series 3-4 after Kerfoot and Marner both shoot the puck over the glass in overtime of game 7.

That’s more likely than making the SCF

There's only one expectation after how much respect we got in that handshake line, and thats to at least make it to the cup final next year.

Apparently we were neck and neck with Tampa so logically that is our bare minimum next season and that's all there is to it, if we win one round and lose in the 2nd that is an absolute failure.

What if the draw Tampa in the first or second round or have to face another good team?

It really isn't at that point any longer. The management has made their bed with a particular core that includes a 40% cap hit for 3 forwards. They've won no playoff series in 6 tries. Winning a round won't cut it. They should be expected to go deep if not win the entire thing to avoid unemployment. Because let's say they do win a round (which I'd grant could have happened once by luck in the past 6 years) then are out-classed in the next series, that's also identifiable as pretenders. Ask the Florida Panthers who are taking their 2nd round loss seriously.

I like this deal all day and twice on Sunday.

They're going nowhere with this management philosophy which seems to be Dubas staking his career over a failed plan.
this. Dubas should have been fired immediately following the playoff exit. His team has been a good regular season team for a few years now, but his mismanagement of cap/contracts and unwillingness to sign character players has cost us dearly. the clock is ticking on the matthews era and it’s time to bring in an nhl gm, and a coach who isn’t in training.

I completely agree. It’s been a botched rebuild so far. I’m just not expecting much anymore. I’d like to see some playoff success but regardless the team has major issues with playoffs and it needs to be addressed.

Yup I’m with you on this it’s conference final or bust

I want a cap run but I just don’t see it with this group unfortunately.
I expect them to do a repeat of this past year and find some other way to lose in the first round. The real question is what does ownership do if this happens

So when they go on a deep run next playoff, you will admit you were wrong and Dubas was right to stay the course?

I'm sure many would love to admit they were wrong. Except the hard core Dubas supporters who could go another 4 years with no success

Avs took longer than us to get where they are. MacKinnon hadn't won a round yet at the same age. The team took a big step forward and found their potential this year. Instead of looking at this as a closing window, management sees this as the true opening of it.

I expect us going forward to win several rounds a year. We'll win a cup in the next 5 years
