It's just these aren't the players to be haggling like that with. You do that with core pieces. Not 30-something bottom six guys.

Though since Bowman didn't sign these deals, it's very possible he didn't know either.

The point is that they have much less space to work with than fans and media thought, and with minimal futures and no 1st, the chances they can make a deadline splash is extremely low, as well as offseason flexibility.

What’s inexcusable is

1) the league allowing contracts to be registered without all the contract information.

2) Not informing a soon to be owner, that an investigation was underway, and then 2-3 weeks after getting team, say btw your docked a first rounder.

now if they go with Kovalchuk case, with a new owner, they changed it to last pick in the first round. Time is running out for that too happen.

Inexcusable, eh? I have dealt with a few people for whom it's always somebody else's fault. So, "Why did not anybody stop me from doing this?" is an excuse I have heard before. In both cases the responsibility rested with Ottawa's (Melnyk's) front office, and in both cases they have failed to conduct honest business. But of course, by all means, let's be mad at the NHL.

Every forward except four, 2 were signed by other teams, and one of them doesn't qualify for an NTC. They all make $1m per so the team has no 1st and no cap dumps to make significant cap space.

Didn't something similar happen a few years ago with Ottawa? They weren't aware a player on their roster had a No Trade List and traded him to a team on that list?

No they traded for a player and believed thar one he waived his no trade claus to go to Ottawa it was no longer valid and the tried to trade him right after lolol
