No sympathy for the owners here. They are much wealthier than the players, and in the Rangers' case they are especially lucrative. They should pay players their full salaries next season.

Does the NHLPA have to agree to these cuts? No way they’re letting them take 60% off
no clue where they are coming up with any of this...players will get killed in escrow for this year, not next year. and lower revenue due to shutdown could kill the cap next year, which will screw free agents and force buyouts but contracts are guaranteed. next year the revenue would go back to normal and far exceed the cap so the players wouldn't lose anything to escrow. I don't understand how there is a single scenario where panarin doesn't get his full salary
Reading that quote made me sick to my stomach. Hope it's not true. Seems like exactly the kind of thing that would happen to the Rangers.

How so? Most north American leagues have player salaries tied to league revenue.
NBA players will be hurting just as much as will NFL players if they can't start on time.

I work for an organization that advocates on behalf of workers in a variety of manual labor-focused industries who literally can't live on the salaries they earn, and who are abused and taken advantage of at every turn. It's what I've done my whole adult life. To me, any time a worker is screwed out of something that should rightfully be theirs, it's f***ed up. The principle of taking advantage of the labor, is terrible. I don't know why you need to be so hostile and insulting.
That said, I don't know that there's really anything to this story.

There isn't any taking advantage of going on here. The players contract through the CBA states 50% of league revenue. If league revenues plunge, players share of the pie goes down accordingly.
This isn't an employer unilaterally imposing wage cuts on their employees. This is the players getting exactly what their contract states they are getting.
Right, and I wouldn't expect anything unilateral given the fact that there's a CBA that governs all of this.

Yes he “made” 11 million dollars because people want to pay money to watch him play. If people wanted to pay to sit in a stadium and watch doctors and nurses perform surgeries then they too could have similar salaries.
this whole argument that comes up is probably the absolute stupidest ones around and just shows a total lack of understanding about how salaries work. People get paid based on how difficult they are to replace and how much revenue they help bring in. It’s why all the “essential” grocery store workers don’t make more money. If they quit ok the store will just hire someone else who can do the exact same thing with a day of training.
