Didnt Tampa put Stamkos on LTIR during some of their Stanley cups runs and using that extra money to build a better team then comes off LTIR during the playoffs. Maybe he just got use to playoff games not a big regular season gamer. The Preds could use that and send him to a contender. Just A thought
 
I still feel like a chunk of the problem is system and players having no faith in it after the abysmal results thus far.

That way a coaching change in the offseason should make next season much more tolerable. If not, next season is gonna be gross. I really dont want to be staring are another top 3 pick next season even if there is some good talent there. I want this year to be one and done.

2020-21 (pandemic shortened) is the only year Stammer missed a significant part of the season across the last eight seasons.
 
Great teams continue to make great moves. Jones is a fantastic piece for Florida.

Hell freezes over before Trotz is able to make those type of moves.
 
I think the Chicago/Florida trade just needs a big "TBD" on both sides... I don't know of any reason for Seth Jones to be "cooked" at age 30. So if he's re-energized and motivated by being on a true contending team, then getting a true #1 RD at just $7M a season by dealing your backup goalie and a late 1st is a pretty great pickup for a defending champion team. *IF*.

Whereas if Spencer Knight gets out of the shadow of Bobrovsky and actually establishes himself as a top starting goalie, that's a good get for Chicago too, given that Jones had basically been stalled out there. I think that might be an even bigger *IF*, though? Soderblom has been doing pretty well this season, so they aren't necessarily reliant on Knight coming through, and it becomes more just a contract dump if Jones wasn't performing up to expectations for them.

Interesting deals anyway. Keep them coming, NHL! We need something to entertain us around here. Stamkos scoring on his own net isn't enough.

Not only is Florida getting a RD in Jones but Chicago is retaining salary as well!

Yeah, apparently Jones was trying to force his way out, so Chicago getting this return was pretty solid

I don't know I've ever seen the big deal on Seth aside from maybe that first season or so in Columbus. Good on the offensive end and special teams, but weak defensively. Works for Florida because they don't necessarily need him to eat huge minutes and they're getting him at a much better price point, but I don't know it makes them all that scarier than they already were.

They seem to be able to get the most out of their D. I would expect he plays quite well there. As long as MT returns healthy for the playoffs, they have to be heavy favorite in the East.
 
Chicago got more than I expected given Jones’s contract. Knight could be a very cheap (asset wise) fix for Chicago in net. Florida taking a big bet Jones sucks because he doesn’t care about playing for a terrible team. I like it for all sides.

Side note, I’ve rarely seen the condition thrown on that pick. 2026 pick “if they still have it”, otherwise 2027. Gives them the option to trade out if they’d prefer the next year

It was reported slightly differently, but isn't that basically what Vegas and Calgary did in Hanifan deal? Vegas subsequently dealt '25 1st to San Jose (which we acquired in Askarov trade) and Flames got '26 pick from Vegas.
