I imagine you'd find that teams with a better penalty kill tend to do better than those without. It doesn't make penalty killing efficacy the singular driving force behind building a roster, nor should it.
You've inspired me to do some research.

I looked at the relationship between six team stats and their regular season + playoff wins over the past three seasons. Guess what came out on top?

The Devils had about 90 OTL points.

They're complete and utter garbage.

Most of the Rangers core that got to the Final are still young.

The issue with the Devils will be goal scoring. On paper, adding Cammaleri and Havlot (LOL) looks fine, but outside of their fluke 2012 season when they were 11th in goals scored, the Devils since 2006 were 21st, 24th, 26th, 15th, 19th, 30th,
28th, and 27th in goals scored.

They dont score goals. He stopped developing players who can score and it has come home to roost. Now he's trying to buy his goal production with aging has-beens and a 42-year-old Jagr playing 20 mins a night.

This isnt the typical Rangers fans saying "The Devils are going to suck this year"....No. They really do suck, and they have no immediate scoring available to them via their farm system or draftees.

Losing 27 games in the shootout means they have no skill. Well, Cammalleri scored a goal in the shootout last season. I guess they're saved.

I mean, enough with Tedenby and Josefson. They suck. Only reason why Larsson gets a pass is because he's a d-man, and they think he'll follow Hedman's track (even though Hedman was never demoted a dozen times and always played 20 mins a night)

Admit it Lou...you failed. Reid Boucher is not going to save your overall horrid development of players.

That aging has been had 8 more points than your leading scorer

You are being a typical ranger fan blindly ripping on the devils when in reality the more successful franchise is very obvious.

For the 100th time Larsson was a victim of a logjam with Devils defensemen, one that has been cleared up. No more excuses for larsson this is his year to run with a starting spot, we will see how he handles it.

Agreed with Jared. Could easily see the Devils making it. They wouldn't be much of a threat past that, but the possibility is absolutely there.

You'd be crucified at Goldman for the skewed graphs, PK running 0 to 100 and PP only running 0 to 30. That said, it's good work.

I'm not terribly surprised that these all have a positive correlation. It doesn't mean I'm going to declare Boyle a superior player to Brassard just because he's a better penalty killer.

And no one would. Keep beating on that strawman.

Boyle's not a first year...he's got experience and his graphics department is off today. Having said that, I've become a dinosaur with these graphs.

Really a lot of unwarranted laughing at the Devils here.

Yeah their roster is a year older than an already old team but they have talent and Schneider will get more games this year which will only help them.

Everyone talks about the Rangers crappy farm system but the Devils have a pretty lousy drafting history lately. Do they even have any big time prospects? Old team and crummy drafting is cause for laughing.

Every time I count the Devils out and think they are about to enter their own "Dark Ages," they end up surprising me. They are like a persistent case of herpes that just won't go away.

If they can stay relatively healthy and well conditioned, they could be a playoff team. But that's a big "if" considering their roster has a lot of older and/or injury-prone players... Clowe, Havlat, Salvador, Ruutuu, Elias, Jagr, etc.

the devils have not been more successful in the past decade than the rangers.

LOL at this.

Typical Devils fans- the problems are everywhere else but their own players.

I hope you guys do make the playoffs, so that you get stuck with a 15th overall pick and then you guys really DO suck for the next decade.

Not anymore.

Detroit has been on the decline for years and continues to stay old and mismanages their younger players. Wouldn't be surprised if Kenny brings back Bertuzzi again too.

As long as they keep coming up with Tatar and Nyquist and the like they'll be a good team. Their farm system is rated pretty highly last I checked.

I think Dubinsky is a very good player and is probably the next Columbus captain, but $5.85 per and a NMC? Wow... If Sather had given him that, he'd be crucified around here.

Dave Bolland got $5.5M per. Dubinsky >> Bolland. He would have gotten $6M+ per on the open market.

The way Lou is just throwing in multiple past their prime UFAs each yr because the prospects up front suck so bad and that coupled with having to be totally dependent on two 40 yrs olds to lead your offense and it really reminds me of the Rangers doing the same thing in the late 90's--early 2000's.

so keep it up Lou!!

the team will continue to finish in that 9-12 range so they have missed 3 out of 4 yrs, dont finish low enough to aquire top end talent they lack, and suck at drafting so Lou will continue treading water.
