yes, i agree he needs those two things... but to say he won't be a top tier center is just silly. i'm baffled by some of the trade proposals for him... Guy's a great player, and some tweaks here and there will make him a consistent 65-70 point player

He also needs to gain consistency in the playoffs.

My math might be off, but the Devils have 16 players on their roster over 30.

Whats the point of being that old when you cant even make the playoffs?

That franchise is a disaster.

When was the last time a team had a top-5 defense, and top-10 in both PK and PP and still couldnt make the playoffs?

That organization is one or two seasons away from Panthers status.

I hope they stay mediocre enough this year to miss out on McDavid and Eichel.

Things are gettin dicey with E Kane and the Jets. I wonder if Nash would be a good starting point for a deal. Kane brings grit, toughness, and scoring, only 23. I'd do Nash + in a heartbeat.

I think Brodeur makes 17

I have a different take on the Devils this morning:

Devils Present Formidable Threat to 2014-15 Rangers

The Devils biggest move this off-season is unleashing themselves from the 220lb anchor they’ve had weighing them down in recent years. Martin Brodeur, while a below league average goalie for the past four seasons, has had a grasp on the lion’s share of the Devils’ net over that span, likely because of what a large figure he is in team history. Even with Cory Schneider in the fold last season, the Devils still had Brodeur in the nets for 46.7% of their shot attempts last season.

The issue with the Devils will be goal scoring. On paper, adding Cammaleri and Havlot (LOL) looks fine, but outside of their fluke 2012 season when they were 11th in goals scored, the Devils since 2006 were 21st, 24th, 26th, 15th, 19th, 30th,
28th, and 27th in goals scored.

They dont score goals. He stopped developing players who can score and it has come home to roost. Now he's trying to buy his goal production with aging has-beens and a 42-year-old Jagr playing 20 mins a night.

This isnt the typical Rangers fans saying "The Devils are going to suck this year"....No. They really do suck, and they have no immediate scoring available to them via their farm system or draftees.

Losing 27 games in the shootout means they have no skill. Well, Cammalleri scored a goal in the shootout last season. I guess they're saved.

I mean, enough with Tedenby and Josefson. They suck. Only reason why Larsson gets a pass is because he's a d-man, and they think he'll follow Hedman's track (even though Hedman was never demoted a dozen times and always played 20 mins a night)

Admit it Lou...you failed. Reid Boucher is not going to save your overall horrid development of players.

Dubinsky's importance to Columbus is pretty evident from watching the team and everything he does.

He never really takes a shift off there and is growing into a team leader.

yep... made the wrong mvoe sending Dubs instead of Cally...

that's hindsight for you.

The NMC is a bit ridiculous, but the guy has earned every penny of that contract

When Dubi was first traded to Columbus, I thought he would get the hell out of dodge the second he hit free agency.

But he has really evolved into a leader and is a big part of the franchise's recent turnaround. He could have left for a better team or more money next summer but opted to stay in Columbus. He's definitely matured a lot since he broke into the league as a fresh-faced rookie in 2007.

I'm certainly not defending their recent player development record, far from it. But I do think it would be a mistake to write them off in 2014-15.

Shootout results tend to regress heavily to the mean:

Since the inception of the shootout, teams that have won two or less shootout games in eight or more attempts have combined to win 48.9% of shootouts in the following season.

Last season, Elias (career 34% shooter), Clowe (35%) and Zajac (25%) combined to go 0-19. Did they forget how to shoot?
