Well...

That makes them the two highest paid players in the league, if I'm not mistaken.

10.5 isn't horrifying for a guy like Toews, but it's probably quite steep for Kane. But since we traded a bunch of pieces for Rich Nash at 7.8 it's hard to criticize.

It gives them the two largest AAVs. It the details are accurate and it's an even $10.5m for all 8 years, then they will rank #3 next season in actual salary behind Weber ($14m) and Crosby ($12m). Ovechkin, Kessel and Lundqvist will all be $0.5m behind.

Chicago was really sort of caught between a rock and a hard place... it isn't like they can just let their two franchise players leave.

completely hamstrings them from putting elite pieces around them going forward. theyre going to be the Penguins of the Westin a few years...very top heavy.

I don't see how it isn't horrifying for Toews, but steep for Kane.

yeah neither do i. both are paid more than Crosby & Malkin, which in and of itself is ridiculous. Granted, different cap world we live in today. still, they took every dollar they could. dont blame them, but in a few years its going to kill them.

meh. the contracts dont begin until 2015/2016. at that point chicago will have 26.5m or so tied up between toews, kane, and keith with a cap over 70m. its not a bad thing to pay superstars superstar money. the pens problems have not been because malkin and crosby make a lot of money.

the first 8 years of crosbys contract is a 10.8AAV and that was signed 2 seasons before the chicago contracts.

I don't look at it as them getting paid more than Crosby. Today, what would be the legal part of Crosby's contract pays him $10.8m per year for 8 years. The first year of that contract (which was last year) would be 16.8% of that season's cap. To me, it's not possible to simply say that Toews and Kane make more. If the Cap next year is $73m, they'll be at 14.4%. If Toews and Kane signed this deal under the old CBA, they'd have an AAV of $8m each.

Jeeez. 10.5 million for each of them is rough if you're Stan Bowman.

He'll have to get REALLY creative to keep this team competitive.

And what is the penguins problem?

I think Toews is the 3rd best center in the league, so he is 100% worth his deal in my book. But Kane got at least a couple of million per year more than he should have.

Toews is absolutely dominant. Going against top competition and shutting them down while playing basically PPG hockey. I think in 4~ years, 10 mil per year won't be bad if the players realize not raising the cap screws them.

Kane isn't worth it though. I would've given him 7-8.

They haven't gotten to the final in years? They're good enough to dominate during the regular season but they screw the pooch in the playoffs.

And you don't think that has anything to do with cap?

Its easier for Crosby and Malkin and Letang to carry a team that can't spend weeks dissecting them and training for them then it is for teams who can. They have no depth and it will kill them every year in the post season. Its a club the black hawks just joined.

Schneider signs a 7 year deal with the Debbie's

From TSN (his numbers pretty good considering the not-so-good Win/Loss record):

"Last season, the 28-year-old Schneider posted a 16-15-12 record with a 1.97 goals against average and 0.921 save percentage with three shutouts in 2013-14, his first season with the Devils."

Would you be able to explain what these charts are saying? I mean, I get the individual categories, but I'm not sure how the chart measures them, exactly.
