Detroit used to be such a powerhouse. Look at them now. Holland even re-ups Kyle Quincey for another 2 years. WTF.

I feel bad for Dats, Z and Kronwall.

What the ****, Giroux?

I've been wondering what the hell San Jose plans on doing.... The signings they've made have been horrible, especially for a "retool"... John Scott? What??

Relocation or expansion?

Relocation: Islanders to Seattle. 15 East, 15 West. A team from the Pacific will have to move to the Central.

Expansion to 32: Seattle (Pacific) and Kansas City (Central). 16 East, 16 West. 32. More money for NHL. Expansion fees. Hype. 164 extra regular season games.

Kansas City has the arena, hosts Pre-season games. Has the NHL history (Scouts). Seattle will get an arena. Metropolitans. The history is there. Get an NBA team and NHL team.

rofl the Scouts were around for 2 years nearly 40 years ago. I don't think there's much "hype" or "history" to be had in Kansas in regards to hockey. Winnipeg got their team back and that was fun for about a season. Atlanta got their team back and that was fun for about half a season. History doesn't equate to longevity or profit.

Kansas City has the arena, the NHL is putting it's footprint there. Pre-season games. The 2012 games cancelled because of the lockout.

17+ thousand attended the game in 2011.

The city is large enough. Cheifs, Royals, MLS is there.

Who do you think would get a team first, Quebec City? They won't be able to support a club. Not a large enough market or large enough economy in the city.

Kansas City, Seattle, Portland. Seattle gets a club, Portland will take a long time to get one. Seattle is the target.

Kansas City will be next. Guaranteed.

Why should the Islanders move?

Because they would be the first logical choice for relocation.

The Barclay's Center is not fit for NHL hockey. It doesn't seat enough in the hockey configuration. It's an AHL arena as far as hockey is concerned. 15 thousand.

Kansas City, Sprint Center 17+ thousand capacity for hockey.

Seattle arena won't be a tiny basketball specific arena if/when it gets built. Not with the NHL showing up looking into putting a team there.

Islanders won't last in Brooklyn.

Why wouldn't Quebec be in the running? How do they have a smaller hockey market than KC? Saying a KC hockey team would be profitable/popular because they have teams in other popular sports makes no sense; how popular are the Stars down in Texas while the Spurs just won the NBA championship and have a legendary football franchise in the Cowboys? How popular were the Rangers/Islanders while the Yankees were winning championship after championship? Being able to keep a franchise afloat and the franchise being popular/profitable are two different things. The other sports markets don't ensure anyone will suddenly care about and support another team in a sport most people don't care about. They have more of a hockey history. They had an actual competitive team, actual NHL stars playing on the Nordiques, and a 30+ year franchise history. If a smaller market like Winnipeg could find a buyer/ownership, Quebec could find one as well. A lot of cities have arenas to host hockey games and can fill an arena if they promote enough and correctly and sell tickets cheap enough. Entirely not sold that ~17k going to a game or two proves there's any longevity.

It makes a huge difference. The city's economy can support an NHL franchise. The arena is there. Its built. There is no guessing game. No wait. No working with the city to break ground and plan.

And, again, weather you want it or not, they are laying the ground work there. They have been marketing the game there successfully.

Its going to happen.

Quebec City is a pipe dream made from nostalgia. It isn't happening. They don't have an arena. And the NHL didn't just fly into Quebec City to peruse the possibility of putting a team there. They did in Seattle. And again, they are marketing the game in Kansas City where a modern arena is already built.

Winnipeg had the arena. They made the effort. The fan base is rabid. They never should have lost the Jets in the first place.

Dallas was a perfect fit as well.

Laugh all you want.

IF Quebec City ever gets a team it won't be for a long time.

Not to get on you specifically but everyone gets crazy about "free agent frenzy" day, when there's typically very few players to get all frenzied about. To be honest, I think that teams who did little this July 1st probably did better than teams that dove into the deep end of the free agency pool. Paul Stastny is no great shakes...and neither is Tommy Vanek (at least if the most recent PO's are any indication)...and after that it's David Legwands, and Benoit Pouliots. Nothing but average, at best, players getting big money contracts.

San Jose still has 2 lines that are on par with the best teams in the league and young players who look pretty promising (remember Tomas Hertl???). As Ranger fans, we've watched how trying to buy a team thru free agency doesn't work. SJ will be just fine. Especially after they trade us Thornton for Stepan, Duclair, Buchnevich and the Rangers 2015 2nd Rounder. ;)

Teams don't get built on July 1st. You add a piece or two and move on. Just because they signed John Scott doesn't mean they are done building their team.

Should the Jets move? Their capacity is 15,004.

The last time I checked, the arena is fit for hockey, because they are about to get a hockey team there. I also highly doubt they don't renovate the place to make the sight lines better to add more seats.

When was the last time the Islanders were a big enough draw that the extra capacity was actually needed?

You need to brush up on your facts. There is a new arena being constructed in Quebec which will be completed next year. At this point, there doesn't seem to be any way that the arena wouldn't be completed before the NHL expands again (and they still had/have the Colisee Pepsi as a backup while the new one was being constructed). As for the Jets, their relocation was actually justified. That franchise was not rolling in dough when they moved and without trying to knock it, the Peg is very much a minor league town.

That's not to say that KC or Seattle isn't more appealing to Bettman. All depends on whether or not he thinks another Canadian team would be a benefit to the NHL. If so, then Quebec has a good shot.

Islanders won't last in Brooklyn.

The Jets home arena seats something like 13,000 and they are arguably the loudest SOBs in the league. 15,000 is not as bad as you make it seem.
