In terms of a torrid pace, the ECF seems slow and sloppy. Those are arguably the two top teams in the entire NHL. You could make a valid argument that the East only has 3 of the top ten teams in the NHL. It's been down for the last two years.

If you thought last nights game was sloppy, then you need to read hockey for dummies, seriously.

Last night was a defensive clinic.

You really think the Kings or Blackhawks would put up 18 shots against the Rangers in an elimination game? The conferences are not even comparable. My team was complete utter garbage this season and managed to finish 5 points out of a playoff spot. We're probably a bottom 4 team if we played in the West. No doubt in my mind.

your argument would appear compelling on paper, but how did your Devils surprise the crap out of everyone a couple of years ago in taking the Kings to 6 games?
Did you expect your team to have that level of success, to make it so close against a Western Conference 'powerhouse'?

Slow? Meh maybe.. sloppy? Did you not just watch that kings hawks game? All I know is that the rangers are the best team in the east and no team in the east can beat us!

Those guys are very good, but they are no different from defense that St. Louis threw out there or Anaheims. Your just not getting the over-all talent that the Kings and Chicago have over the Rangers. Its not even comparable. The little forwards of the Rangers will get punished by the much bigger Kings players or the overall skill of Chicago will just skate in circles all night long in your zone.

I'll give you St. Louis (I actually like their D) but to compare the Ranger D to Anaheim's is just ridiculous.

How was the ECF a AHL game? The rangers put on a defensive clinic.. I mean the devils wouldn't know cuz all they know is the trap

People in glass houses and all that... What do you think we were doing in the 3rd period? NZT, they couldn't even enter our zone. Forced to dump in but couldn't chase because we had one dman back to scoop up the puck and get it out quickly.

Not really. We played a heavy puck possession game predicated on the cycle. Our style kept us in those games.

Pretty sure they were the only team in the top 5 for possession to miss the playoffs. They can hold onto the puck like champs, just can't score.

You do realize he has made a career avoiding that kind of ****, right? You are a complete joke and have no conceptual idea of how hockey is played if you think MSL is going to be destroyed because he is playing against bigger players.

He and Zucc have both played as small humans their whole lives. They have learned to play against bigger guys since they were in pee-wees. Which is why they are so effective on the boards.

Agreed. MSL plays bigger than his size. Zuccarello is one of the tougher forwards out there despite his size. He will go face to face with anyone. Also remember all the Montreal players acted like they were gonna go after Kreider and none of them dared to try

Well they did get crushed all series long by those giants from Philly. Philly pummeled the little itty bitty Rangers until they were mince meat. amirite?

Blackhawks are shoddy on D. True. In the kings defense, the hawks have the most skill in the NHL by a wide margin. The ECF was AHL hockey compared to this pace.

Hope you're man enough to eat a nice serving of crow come Wed when both of these teams are gassed and the Rangers are zipping around the ice. Speed kills...especially when teams are tired and beat up.

Its not about hitting them, its about getting overpowered in the corners or on the puck. Montreal couldn't do that because they were as small as the Rangers. The kings on the other hand have size, speed, and snarl! Beating the Canadiens was not a big deal, now if you beat Boston on the other hand,....

Canadiens are smaller than the rangers and they beat Boston.. so this overpower thing has been thrown out the window

I never said beating Montreal was a fluke. I said Montreal was a fluke, meaning them making the CF.

Three or four pages back I specifically wrote "the Rangers are no Cinderella fluke"

In the playoffs matching up is more important then seeding or having an advantage on paper. We matched up well against Philly, Pittsburgh had an edge on us but Crosby and Neal were held in check pretty well, and we matched up well against Montreal. I didn't wanna see us play Boston, they are physical and roll 4 lines, kind of like what the Kings do. So even though the Hawks are a higher seed, the Rangers probably match up better against Chicago then L.A. Have Girardi, McDonagh, Staal and Stralman try to keep the Toews and Kane lines in check and we have a shot in 6 games.
