I just listened to the most recent 31 Thoughts podcast and the Canadian media is a joke. Friedman says “Going in to the Final my Conn Smythe vote was going to Price win or lose.” And then basically said he’s still leaning Price even after the first two games. Marek agreed with him and said if he had a vote it would be Price and from ppl he’s spoken to he’s not in the minority.

Meanwhile Vasilevsky has better numbers and is actually winning the series. Friedman said “idk Vasilevsky has had some weird games” as if that disqualifies him? And as if Price didn’t get lit up for 5 in game 1?

I swear Montreal is going to lose in 4 or 5 and the Canadian media is going to force the Conn Smythe to Price, it’s such a joke.
Price has had an unbelievable playoff run.

Until the Final.

Vasilevsky does have better numbers but he’s on a vastly superior team. Point should probably get it.

Kucherov is going to end up winning the Conn Smythe in the same year he was LTIR for every game of the regular season and returned for game 1 of the playoffs. And everyone is going to say “oh, he clearly wasn’t 100%”. I don’t think he wasn’t 100%. I think he just wasn’t up to game speed/conditioning. I don’t care about the over the cap debate. Hopefully NHL will address the loophole and that’s that. But it’s pretty hysterical that a guy who was basically cap free will win the Conn Smythe.

Tampa is vastly superior to the Habs, but it's more than that, Vassilyevski apparently has 11 straight wins against them. It's just a very bad match up style wise for the Habs.

He did but the idea that Friedman was giving Price his vote ‘win or lose’ going in the the final is crazy IMO. It should’ve been up in the air, with Kuch as a Tampa front runner and Price as the Habs default and maybe a slight edge to Price if he loses and it goes 7 or something. But Friedman, who I like a lot, was still saying down 2-0 and with an .820 sv% at that point that Price maybe still deserves it. Sorry, at that point no way he does. Great run, sure. On par with quite a lot of great goalie runs in playoff losses.

RIP to CBJ goalie Matiss Kivleniks who suddenly passed away. His first NHL win was against us and I still remember it. This is one time I am happy a goalie got his first NHL win against us. Condolences to his family and friends.

Jesus did JD hit a voodoo priest with his car on the way from CLB to NYC? It’s been nightmare after nightmare for him ever since

this is horrible news people are saying he got hit with a firework then hit his head? Awful. 24 years old

Sounds like a lot of rumors about how this kid died but whichever is true, what a freak accident and a horrible tragedy. You just never know.

Such an unnecessary loss of life. To think that he died because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Is it me or does it seem like fireworks cause more trouble then it’s worth with animals being spooked, people losing their digits (Jason Pierre Paul), and people just not knowing that it’s meant for one day and not a weeks long celebration late into the early morning hours.

We will be a serious contender in 2-3 years. We have some elite talent and that is the hardest part of building a champion. Depth and balance will be added over the coming years. I like our chances.

well, if that elite talent (Laf, Kakko and maybe Fox) wants elite money, we’re dead if all this cash is loaded into NTC in including Panarin, Trouba, Kreider plus Zibby and Buch. The goalie also needs a contract. And if a Krav, etc is going for a center like Larkin, he’s going to want money too.

Was harping on Kreider but he’s here. So imo, Buch has to go

Interesting piece of "What If?" Rangers were seriously considering drafting Vasilevsky in 2011. Imagine he makes it to them. Does that change anything with Henrik after the Cup runs?

A lot of people have said to me "but Machinehead, you sexy bastard, don't you think Montreal deserves to be here because they have good analytics?"

They're misunderstanding analytics. Analytics are about large samples.

After several years, you are what wins and losses say you are. Saying "six years of them being shit was luck and this year is the one with the correct outcome" is also not how samples work.

I will freely admit that I prefer to avoid fireworks. I am cool with professionals putting on a show, but I’ve always been leery of stuff found at stands in the hands of someone who has had alcohol.

Some of that was growing up hearing a horror story from a parent who grew up in Little Italy and had a friend whose foot was blown off during an accident in Chinatown. But even after hearing that story as a kid I can remember having fireworks wiz past my head because they mis-fired, or knowing a kid whose house was spared only because because the firework got caught in a screen window.

As an adult, we hear stories like this or JPP. All told, I’d just rather keep away.

I mean, it’s still highly improbable that anything will happen. You’ve got millions of people fooling around with fireworks and what, dozens of serious injuries? I mean, I’d stay away from the serious stuff if you’ve been drinking, have a bunch of kids running around, and/or are playing in a confined area, but they shouldn’t be forbidden if that’s what you’re getting at.

They’re explosives. They aren’t dynamite but don’t have to be. Highly dangerous.

Yeah. I just don’t want anything to do with them.

Admire the heck out of people who are trained and can create spectacular shows. I’ll leave it to the experts.

Friends and I used to have roman candle wars growing up.

The high explosive shit though, I get to go watch that for free when other people do it.

I don't worry about what may happen 3 years down the road. Drury is well aware of potential issues ahead. They may not be able to sign everybody but that doesn't mean they won't be able to ice a serious contender as every contending team generally has cap concerns when their players want to get paid. Maybe they have to buyout somebody, maybe they can trade Trouba in 2023 as I believe his NTC expires. Who knows?
