Someone in the Flyers post game thread referred to themselves as a once great franchise. Um, okay.
That’s half-true actually...

They’ve been an above-average team for most of their existence, (as evidenced by like 8 SCF sporadic appearances over the last 40 years.)

Unfortunately, they’ve also been an above-average team that has never been able to get the job done when it mattered for most of their existence, (as evidenced by like 8 sporadic SCF appearances over the last 40 years.)

Seriously the Flyers lose like 1-2 Stanley Cup Finals per decade.

1975-76 vs. Montreal Canadiens
1979-80 vs. New York Islanders
1984-85 vs. Edmonton Oilers
1986-87 vs. Edmonton Oilers
1996-97 vs. Detroit Red Wings
2009-10 vs. Chicago Blackhawks

...not to mention Conference Finals losses:

1988-89 vs. Montreal Canadiens
1994-95 vs. New Jersey Devils
1999-00 vs. New Jersey Devils
2003-04 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
2007-08 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Isn’t Tampa getting Kucherov back for the playoffs? They also can add a RHD at the deadline. Barring injury to Hedman or Vasilevsky, I don’t know if I can say anyone is the favorite over them.

They’ll play Vegas or Colorado in the final.

Flyers fans suicidal on their thread. We tried to warn them about this coach. It was all cakes and eggs last year. He needs to be handed an elite team that has every piece in place just to pull up short. I am not a fan of this philly team. Man, they stink like ****. We’re as good and we’re the youngest team in hockey coached by an utter buffoon.
I think you meant to say........"Much better",

Looking past Philly in the standings (they suck)......Boston is who we have our sights on.

Boston has already beaten Philly 5x, outscoring them 24-12.
Thats 5 out of their 18 wins! Boston would be a -4 goal differential without Philly outcomes. So....how good are they?

They play Philly their last 3 of their 8 matches next week.
So I suppose, we need Philly to NOT SUCK so badly and beat them a few times......if that's feasible.

Yeah was hoping the Jackets would look strong and grab the 4th spot and making try to play that physical brand plus good goaltending against the Lightning that has worked in the past. Just doesn't seem like that is gonna happen this year. Maybe Carolina takes them 6 games? I mean even without Kuch they are probably favorites when it comes down to it.
They "timed" the Kuch thing perfectly.

Isles simply hammered the Caps last night...gave the defense fits...everybody moving and nobody standing around ....they are going for sure . Easily enough could win the division playing like that . Uncle Leo yapping all night and Clutterbuck ...Ross Johnston designated goon #1playing....and Matt Martin designated goon #2 fighting Chara ....how does a first place club do so well with that toughness in the lineup LOL......I thought that did not work anymore ???:D:D:laugh::DD:popcorn: Little write up on it ...Zdeno Chara defends Capitals teammates, fights Matt Martin in heavyweight bout

I also thought Daniel Sprong has played quite well so far with Caps ....in a full season he would be on pace for 20 + goals.

The Flames are so anemic and bad. The top 4 in the North is basically set.
