Hawks fans seem to be having a different reaction than Rangers fans did in 2018

not really surprising...first they probably remember the bill wirtz days, they already got a lottery pick in Dach...and most of all Kane & Toews are still 31/32 and good players. imagine the reaction here if we decided to blow it up after 2013 when hank was 31

The Blackhawks are just in such a completely different situation than we were. They have a bunch of bad contracts, they have legendary superstars signed for goofy $, and their management is part of the problem.

They're just going to spam the fact that they won 3 Cups as they go through an ugly rebuild that'll involve their star players leaving on bad terms. For a team that was once managed so well, Bowman really has been shitting the bed lately.

I dunno..lots of those teams that won cups back in the day did so by basically cheating the cap with the back diving contracts. Keith and hossa were both on cheater contracts.. and lo and behold they won their cup.

Everyone did it...we did it. But we had no cups to show for it.

It's a lot harder and way more even a playing field now.

If Lafreniere isn't above your family's health, what are you even doing here?

Total positive thoughts: If all goes well we'll have an image of Laf holding that special trophy that I can celebrate with my biological family, my future g/f, AND my HF family.

Besides the letter, for those keeping track the stick salute to the fans was also started by the Rangers in 2005. Kaspuritus, Jagr and his Czech buddies brought it over from Europe.

It was an appreciation to the fans for coming out after the lockout and also a "Thank You for believing in us" when the rest of the league laughed at Jagr for guaranteeing the playoffs.

I remember the night before the season started in Philly and Jagr was on News12 NY saying this team will make the playoffs, all of the anchors laughed at him. That's how little faith there was going into the reboot for that 2005-06 squad.

That’s an interesting point. Indeed, quite different context. Also, the management that kind of created the problem is still there. Gorton didn’t really have much blood on his hands at the time.

I really miss those Jagr teams, fun to watch and Dubinsky learning from Jagr was fun. sadly Dubinsky should have stayed a Ranger. all Nash did was go ghost in the playoffs. I would have kept Gaborik. swapping RW Gaborik for Nash made no sense. if they kept both Gaborik and Nash and found a center a different way then who knows in 2013, maybe they would have won in 2014

No he shouldn't have. Not at all.

Their biggest problem is the unwillingness to let one of their big 2 get traded. You could get a serious haul for Kane if you wanted to even with his salary, Toews as well but lesser.

I can't even fathom being that greedy. 3 cups in the last 10 years. Before that they had nothing since 65. You would think a little self awareness and the fact that nothing lasts forever would be something they would reason with.

I think with the exception of Staal and Girardi we got rid of a lot of players at the exact right time. Prust, Callahan, Dubinsky, Pouliot, Brassard, Nash etc, all left just before they dropped off. Imagine if we had kept Nash and Brassard for another year, the returns for either of those guys would have been nothing to write home about.

IMO the Chicago letter was unnecessary. Their team was able to already get some quality young players in the last few years to start putting foundation for the team's next iteration and their elders (the level of which the Rangers didn't have sans Lundqvist) would be able to continue to make the Hawks relevant in meantime before they could be moved for prospects and picks.

I think fans also struggle with players ages these days.

10, 15, 30 years ago we were in an era where a guy at 30/31 was still seen as having some prime years ahead of him.

Now? The game has changed to the point that 30/31 feels like the beginning of the end.

That's the difference today vs. acquiring a 30 year old Mark Messier in 1991, or a 32 year old Jagr in 2004.

So when you're a fan of the Hawks and you see 32 year old Toews and 31 year old Kane, it's hard to imagine that era coming to a close.

Then you factor in that the Hawks had a pair of top 10 picks in 2018 and 2019, before climbing all the way to 17th in 2020 and you can see where there is some mixed signals.

Living in Chicago, the main thing I hear from fans is that they want a sell-off. It's one thing to trade Saad and another to get Zadorov back. Just as it's strange to acquire Lehner, trade him, keep Craford, then let Crawford walk for nothing. Seems like the Hawks are basically operating as though Kane and Toews either are not depreciating assets, or are simply unmovable. The latter may be true, but I think Hawks fans (that I've spoken with) don't have a lot of trust in the management to pull of a rebuild because while they seem intent on tanking, they're far from scorching the earth here.

it really is weird because Kane/Toews/Keith are all still very good and the team isn't an abortion like some other teams that needed a blow up, but their management has been painfully bad for 6 years. consistently bleeding talent, for no reason.

Yeah, Post-lockout, the only player the Rangers moved on from that you can go "damn, we really should have kept them" is maybe Stralman.

They had to make a bunch of moves for cap reasons but they also seem to have made some puzzling ones as well

People used to think that 30 was a players prime years. Mainly that's because when they became UFAs but still.

I mean look at these moves since 2017

-Panarin to get Saad back
-Trading Saad for Zadorov
-Trading Lehner just to let Crawford walk
-Gave Danault away for free
-Teravainen added to a trade to get rid of Bickell
-Traded Kempny for nothing

it's not excessive but these are great players that could've maybe added a run or two.
