Anyone who voted for Lafreniere to go to the WJCs did so for their own selfish personal entertainment. Because there was no reason for him to go. Nothing to prove with only more possibilities for it to have a negative effect such as a bad performance or an injury. He breaks a wrist like Dach did every single Rangers fan would be devastated.

Cant wait for January 14th

Or maybe, JUST MAYBE they voted before knowing if and when the season was even starting and didn't want the kid sitting cold for 11+ months without competitive hockey. "Anyone who voted for Lafreniere to go to the WJCs did so for their own selfish personal entertainment." This is such a ridiculous generalization, do better.

Dach getting injured is the best thing for his mainboard hype train. He was a lock to have an underwhelming tournament.

For his sake, I hope he heals up and doesn't much too much time during the regular season.

Its not ridiculous one bit. Gimme a damn break. He had nothing left to prove there regardless of an NHL season or not. You do better and stop being ignorant.

Who cares about what he has to prove? I already explained why people would of voted for him to play, thus refuting your absurd blanket statement on "selfishness". Pray tell, how am I the one being ignorant?

If not selfish then "not smart". What happen to Dach was an UNNECESSARY risk for an established NHLer.

Yeah, I agree. Now that we know when the season will start it makes no sense to send either Dach or Lafreniere. Calling people names for voting for him to go before that info even came out is kind of rude. That was my only point.

If it was confirmed that there wouldn't be NHL season altogether then allowing Lafreniere to play was worth a consideration. However, in accounting or legal terms it was more-likely-than-not (probably even higher "should" opinion) that the season would take place and so sending Lafreniere would be that unnecessary risk I mentioned.

It still feels like Del Z is young but he's 30.

Besides being extremely immature when he was in NY, the fact that skating became such a big part of the game around 2015 or 2016 (when Pittsburgh won the first of those Cups with the finesse D) has not helped him.

He's not a bad skater he's just not quick.

Wonder if the Preds are going to be affected by what happened in downtown Nashville.

Of course Ranger fans would be devastated if he broke his wrist, but there's still a very low probability of breaking your wrist even though we just saw one. Anyways, most were against it once the timeline for the NHL season was released. But wanting him to play in some meaningful games before a 10 month-layoff leading into his NHL debut wasn't selfish, give me a break with that shit.

Meaningful games? Cmon Thirty One. He has dominated this tournament. Canada is loaded. How many “meaningful” games are they playing in this tournament? 2? 3? You think playing in this tournament where he is the superior player on the superior team is really going to make some significant difference in his preparation for the NHL season? A 2-3 week tournament? Yes I do think its a combination* of some being selfish in wanting to watch him play AND some misguided belief that playing in this tournament is some necessity for his upcoming rookie year at the NHL level.

We can debate what the word meaningful means, but I think playing competitive hockey would have been of some benefit. We see the difference in some teams in the WJC where the players have been playing vs. the teams where that's not the case. There will be some of that in the NHL too. If the logistics made sense (they didn't) I would have liked for him to come in game-practiced so that's not another thing he has to adjust to in his first few weeks in the league.

Agree to disagree here then. Because pointing to say the Russians as a team who has players who have been “playing” is somewhat of a misleading argument. The Russians have been playing for 2-3 months worth of games. Lafreniere would be getting 2-3 weeks worth of games in. I just dont buy that would have some large impact on his performance going into this camp. This kid has “it”, he has performed at every level, and I believe he will be ready to go.

We pretty much knew there was going to be a season. Everyone expected one. Teams expected one, which is why the Rangers didn't let him go. Everyone figured "there's going to be a season somehow"
