He's a young RHD who scored 53 points in 68 games and plays with an edge. They don't grow on trees. I know he needs work in his own zone but unless you get a really good return you keep him.

Yeah maybe, but Lundkvist could be anything! He might even turn into a young RHD who can score 53 points in 68 games!

It’s not about Lundkvist’s upside, it’s about having two great RDs already, and being able to replace ADA’s upcoming cap hit with an ELC, while adding an important piece in an area of more pressing need.

its not like we have Stu Bickel and Steve Eminger playing behind ADA, we have two high quality players playing the same position. We’re not gonna be able to keep every single good player we come across.

I doubt it. I think DeAngelo's vision and offensive ability as a defenseman is only rivaled by the likes of Makar/Hughes. Can't really teach those instincts. Lundkvist is a stud but he's not that type of player. Thinking more along the lines of Fox but with a much more dangerous shot which is a hell of a player.

So by your own description id prefer Lundkvist over Deangelo

This is something that is going to be a very big deal over the next few years --- ELC contracts.

We're going to have some guys who are getting to get paid a lot of money. As a result, a steady stream of young, cheap talent is going to be essential to our efforts.

In ADA's case, the Rangers decision will be less about "replacing" him with Lundkvist, as much as it will be about potentially having Fox more or less replace him at a lower price point, and then having Lundkvist make the team at a lower price point.

The 2021-22 team could very well have anywhere from 3-5 defemsemen who COMBINED make equal to or less than ADA's salary.

That's significant.

I'm confident Gorton and co. doesn't hand out absurd UFA type deals to our RFA. One of TOR major mistakes

Have you heard anything saying otherwise?

I think their big signings are already in place. I also think they are well aware that with first and second overall picks comes (hopefully) first and second overall production, and thus $$$ contracts.

Lol
