I would not be shocked to see Matt Martin on our 4th line next season for a lot of reasons

I don't think so. He's an Isle lifer. Doubt he would come to the "Dark Side". Islanders fans would be ruthless with him.

I can live with a fourth line of Lemieux-Howden-Gauthier. Or maybe we trade Howden and go with Barron.

If Tampa wins the Cup. Hedman’s gotta get the Smythe right? I haven’t watched every game but it seems like he scores every big goal.

Him or Point.

Tampa's going to have to get production out of more than 1 line in the finals though. Dallas being in this spot is a bit surprising, but they're getting contributions from all over the place.

Now the serious cap work comes for the Islanders. Need to sign Barzal, Toews, and Pullock to new contracts. All RFAs. They don't have a lot of wiggle room in a flat cap world. Martin, Kunahkel, and Brassard all probably leaving. Lou is going to have to get creative. I'm sure he'll pull some shrewd moves. Beauvillier up for a new contract after next season. Ladd buy out and look to dump Komarov.

I'm really curious what Andy Green would want. He might be a really good LHD stopgap to work with Trouba for next year in what surely will be a strange season. I still don't know how they get 82 games off. Have Green work with K. Miller and the gang. He's a pro.

Would love Martin here. He's a 4th liner who can take a regular shift, pop in a goal here and there, and forecheck. The Rangers need some sandpaper.

As for the McD trade; you can't say it was a fleece yet. So far it favors Tampa Bay and if they win the Cup it was the right move for them, but no one knows how they're going to do on one night's rest and also McD still isn't Rangers McD anymore.

It all comes down to Lundkvist and Henrikson. What if both become key contributors? Need a few more years to assess.

You should have been on here for the 11-12 season. Winning 2 series a pretty big deal!

Tampa with one functioning line basically is the 2011-12 Rangers.

I don't know which run caused me more heartburn, that season's Rangers run, or having to root for the Cap/Flyers/Bolts against the Islanders. I don't count the Panthers because they're not a good club.

2011-12 was not a fun playoff run to watch. After the first game against Ottawa the Rangers basically looked like ass all playoffs.

I enjoyed 11-12. I think the outdoor game and doco helped, but I liked the players and the 'no quit' attitude.
Of course I was in Afghanistan for the end of the season and playoffs, so I may have enjoyed it more as it gave me something non-work related to look forward to...

The thing that got me was the Rangers had trouble scoring right from the beginning against Ottawa. Close games. I remember thinking wait they're the #1 seed in the conference why is this series against Ottawa this hard?

Many isles fans I know totally dismissed the fact that we went to 3 conference finals in 4 years including a SCF because we didn't win the cup. I just find it amusing that shit franchise makes it to one in nearly 3 decades and now its a big deal. It's all about the cup and with the talent already on the Rangers and soon to be I'm convinced we have a real shot in the not too distant future.

Ottawa gave them fits that season. I remember the CFO of my old job who was a huge Rangers fan gave me tickets in early 2012 vs. the Sens and they took it pretty good to the Rangers and won that game.

Following that season is when the narrative here started changing about elite talent and drafting. It went something like this;

2005-2009; Hey the Rangers have young guys in the lineup, wow this is cool and unusual.
2009-2012: Wow the Rangers have so many fairly effective young players in the lineup this is cool
2012-2019: This team has no killer instinct and always drafts these complimentary mid 6ers and 2nd pari DMen.
