Where do the islanders find 8 or 9 mil for Barzal and what planet is it a good idea to pay pageau 5 mil long term when you know you have to pay barzal?

the have to pay pulock too and if they do manage to do so how do they improve this team? They have a garbage prospect pool and zero money to bring in any talent

islander fans hate eberle too lol

“When healthy”, and he’s already sustained multiple injuries. The impact injuries have had on him was noticeable when he was a Ranger, I can’t imagine those things will improve with age.

Again, super glad we didn’t give out that contract

The stoppage did McD some good. He looked very close to Rangers McD tonight.

He's had a ton of injuries throughout his career and can't sustain the 82-game grind anymore. If they win this year, honestly it's worth it for them.

Wait but but but but the Islanders have Oliver Wahlstrom. My Islander fan buds told me we would rue the day we let him slip past us and took Kravtsov instead....hmmmm.....lol

McDonagh has been a horse for them the entire postseason.

The offense isn't what it was, but the defense has been there. Yes that contract will be straight ass cheeks in 2 years but they don't need him to be good in 2 years, they need him to be good right now.

He along with Brassard were the 2 skaters on the contending Rangers that were + playoff performers. His performance this year should come as a surprise to no one.

Quinn getting more votes than Trotz is hilarious and bad.
Regular season award and the Islanders were booty cakes this season outside of that hot streak at the beginning. But yeah, lots of votes go to coaches with teams that were supposed to be bad that were better than expected.

Cassidy winning is a nice change from that.

I'd put Fast in the category too. He was very good in 2015 and 2017.

Lundqvist too most of the time. He seemed to have a cap on how good he was in the playoffs where he'd be amazing like 9/10 times but have a stinker or not be able to single-handedly save the day. He stole a few series though like Pittsburgh in 2014 and kept them in Washington 2015 long enough.

Ultimately it's great the Rangers have all of this young talent but they need guys to first understand the playoffs, and then be playoff performers. Killer instinct.

The last core was by and large not playoff performers and every series was dragged out other than Pittsburgh 2015.

I'm perfectly happy with being a 4-7 seed if this next core goes full altered beast in the playoffs or can channel the 2007 or 2011 NY Football Giants playoff runs.

Yeah he’s been very good in most of the games I’ve seen and like you said, for Tampa the contract is all about the short term, so they don’t care if McDonagh is held together by thread and wire in year 3 of the contract .

But people wishing we had kept him have nostalgia blinders

I want to find those three guys who voted for Quinn and ask their rationale.

I'm not a Quinn hater at all (I'm as much a Quinn hater as an apparent Zuc hater lol) but I try and call it like it is and he did nothing special this year other than let young goalies play and get peppered by shots.

Maybe Jacques Martin can help him but I just don't see Quinn making it past next season unless the offensive talent carries them to a playoff birth.

The thought process behind Jack Adams voting usually goes like "who did I think was going to be terrible this year and somehow wasn't completely that? I couldn't possibly be wrong with my assessment of the roster, so the coach must be the one who made them ruin my prediction." (And usually the winner is just buoyed by a goalie playing out of their minds all season long)

I'm guessing it had something to do with our hot start coming out of 2020 which got sidelined when Shesty got injured. But still, I agree. That doesn't seem enough.
