Yeah, truth be told, if my hazy memory is correct, it was yours and Draft Guru's articles on th '99 draft and Brendl/Landmark that brought me to the original boards.

I started writing for the site in 1997. I came in just after the draft and did a recap article.

For a number of years it was myself, Evan and Jon. We had one of the most visited pages on the entire site (I think we peaked at third most active).

However, sometime around 2001/2002 (I can't remember at this time), there was new management, new owners and in their effort to "legitimize" the site, they wanted to do away with pen names and wanted writers to reveal their sources.

That was a no-go for me on multiple fronts. First of all, I was working for the Rangers, so that was a major conflict of interest. Second, I was not going to give up all my sources. No outlet requests that without assurances the reporter isn't going to be replaced.

We went back and forth a few times, and eventually I never got a call back.

I won't say anything disparaging about the years that followed, but I will say the site lost momentumn and the articles never quite had the same popularity.

Hockey's Future should've been one of those sites that is used today as a major source. But bad leadership, and bad decisions, sank that possibility.

Of the teams left, I’d be fine with Vegas or Vancouver going all the way. Don’t care for Dallas because of their goal music (DALLAS...STARS...DALLAS....STARS), don’t care for the Islanders because the are the Islanders, don’t care for Philly because they are Philly and I hate Tasty Cakes, and don’t care for Tampa because of 2015 and because their coach has a very smug and punchable face.

Vancouver, because they've never won a Cup.

And, honestly, I'd rather the Islanders win than Vegas. Nothing wrankles my ass more than some new-ass team winning the Cup that has paid absolutely no dues to get there and their fans haven't suffered enough. At all. Their fans haven't suffered at all. They need to wait.

The great irony is that for all any of us know, the guy they'd take at 21, is the guy they'd take 22, 23 or 24.

He very well could be a guy this board has ranked 32nd, and the Rangers are fairly confident he'll be there no matter where they pick.

I actually kind of expect this to be the case.

What it does change though, is how close we are to being able to trade up for a guy like Mercer or Jarvis!

I agree with everything but this.

My heart wants Philly to win to see Lindblom hoist the cup :(
My order would be:

1. Philly
2. Tampa
3. Dallas
4. Vegas
5. Isles
6. Vancouver
Man I was with you until this post
Love the Lindblom story who doesn't. Let him score 5 goals in game 7 tomorrow but after that the Flyers have to be out in the ECF.
Why Tampa before Dallas?
I know you hate Vancouver and I definitely don't want them to win it all but if they win tonight its a big win win for us on a few fronts.

I really am curious where they have guys like Mercer and Jarvis. In theory, they should be guys the Rangers like.

Lundell I know they really like. Ditto for Holloway. Do they like them enough to trade from their draft spot if either falls? Not sure.

But 21 would open up some possibilities. Who knows, maybe we buck tradition again and trade down a few spots to pick up a second. That also becomes a more attractive option should the Rangers want to go down that path.

Strangely enough, I had a dream last night that I was watching a draft recap special and it talked about the Rangers “L&L” first round.

f*** that. Philly and Isles should be the last 2 on anyone's list.

Absolutely!! My List:

Dallas - I don't care
Vancouver - Not a fan but whatever
Tampa - Would rather they didn't
Vegas - They were gifted a playoff roster as an expansion team and it bothers me
Philly - Only one team I hate more
Isles - I would rather stick a fork in my eye. Hate them with a passion.

You’re keep saying it but didn’t they give this money to Pavelski? And you can’t blame Dallas for not wanting to give Zuke 5th year he got from Minnesota.

i just wanted the #1 pick. And i love the physical team Dallas built. Being touting their build for a while with others pushing back

Colorado still has some holes that they need to shore up.

I dunno about that...they are loaded everywhere.

They had 7 guys injured who they count on and it finally took it's toll. Most important injury was too Grubauer as they had too play their #3 goalie in Hutchinson after Francouz got hurt.

Matt Calvert who is their energy guy was a key loss. Eric Johnson who is probably there best defensive dman has been out for awhile and he has been sorely missed. And than today no Landeskog which is a mucho huge loss!

A healthy Avalanche team waltz into the WCF at the very least if not onto the Cup finals. I wouldn't sell that team short. Next year they easily could be the west representative in the Cup finals. You need some luv from lady luck when it comes to winning a Cup as the NHL playoffs are a battle of attrition. Av's didn't get the required luv from the hockey gods but they have a tremendous future.
