So the ideal scenario of 21OA is still alive. Need victories from the Stars, Canucks and Isles, although, if we get the first two, I'd be willing to sacrifice the last one.

I think many of us would take it so long as Tampa finishes off the Isles.

All those teams you listed and opponents are showing so much grit. Great hockey and quite a show. Shame the ratings are so/so. The real hope for mass appeal are the Rangers becoming awesome for the NHL big stage.

Yes, NHL has done a great job with the playoff format. I never thought it was going to be this good.

I’m hoping they don’t adopt any type of playin Round though. As awesome as the playoffs have been and always have been, that AZ team had no business in the playoffs.

i kinda thought the Rangers gifted that 2nd to Carolina for Fox b/c he had them over a barrel. Realistically though, that trade was a laughable heist. A 2nd Rounder for a kid ready to go and then some. This rebuild has had quite a bit luck and fortune despite the Lias drama.

stop that trade was a steal. that WAS the discounted price cause their hand was forced.

which made it a steal. That wasn’t market value for a developed and ready to go kid of this talent. He wanted to be a Ranger. Had he not cared who he played for the Canes wouldn’t have moved him for a 2nd Round pick if somebody called them

IMO, the 2nd Round pick was a gift b/c the kid was about to become a FA from what i understand.

“ check this out!!! Hockey is a Canadian sport!!”
I’m making fun. Let them have some sort of National pride. I won’t make fun since Canada is basically owned by china now.

I guess self promotion and national pride is something that has filtered our way from our neighbours to the south. We have pulled this bubble thing off amazingly well don't you think and you are allowed to acknowledge it during every game you watch.

I love the play in round, but I think they need to limit it more than they did if they adopt it in the future. If they keep the divisional playoff format, there should only be a play-in between 4 and 5. If they go back to a conference format, the play-ins should be 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9. Both would just be 4 playoff series and really only between teams on the bubble.

Yes, that makes it safer. It may not be perfect but they can’t have a AZ win a playoff round b/c a bad team’s hot streak will likely end ugly.

Fox was only a junior. so he would have had to go back to Harvard for his senior year...another year later with a change to negotiate or trade him somewhere else for carolina and then all 30 teams being able to try to sign him as a UFA nothing was guaranteed. pouncing on him at that price was the right move every time.

I don't think you will see the play-in round again. that was done cause the regular season wasn't completed. I wouldn't expect it to continue....the thing that we could see which I'd be in favor of is going back to 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7 etc and re-seeding rather than the divisional brackets. The intention behind that to develop rivalries made some sense, but I think it resulted in more fan frustration having to face the same teams in the 1st 2 rounds every year.

hey, i wanted him. Glad they got him and he wanted to play for the Rangers. Poster mentioned it’s a good year to have that 2nd Round pick. Well, look what the 2nd Round pick already got the Rangers. By all means, if this is going rate for talent i hope the Rangers part with 2nd Round picks every year.

Just goes to show you that you don't need an elite goaltender to contend for the Cup.

Yeah, that was quite clear after seeing Antti Niemi, Corey Crawford (2), Matt Murray (2), Jordan Binnington, Cam Ward, Chris Osgood and Fleury (3) win Cups in the cap era. You need elite defense. And elite centers.

Fleury has a chance to reach his 6th Cup final in 12 years. I wouldn't consider him elite, but more a product of the team in front of him.

well, most often the team who wins it has a hot goalie.

the play in and round robin makes this seem longer but we’re still only finishing Round 2. These Game 7 Goalies had better play well so their teams can reach the half way point of this playoff.

AV changes the scale of my dislike toward Flyers.

kinda like what i am seeing from them. They don’t appears as good as they looked when the stoppage happened and they certainly have no resemblance of the Broad Street Bullies.

Well my friend...I can do two things at once. I can focus 100% on my team in this case the Rangers and also focus on how my fantasy teams do. It's not rocket science...just sayin!
Do what you like. I'm not saying you shouldn't. I can't split loyalties. I wouldn't want to

It's been fascinating to watch all of these series now to go a Game 7 (some positive for us, some not so positive).

Tonight alone, the Canes pick can rise from 24 to 22.

By tomorrow night it can climb as high as 21.

Weird to think we're looking at an asset with a value that may or may not increase by the equivalent trade cost of a second round over a 48 hour window.

Also something to consider when we float trade-up scenarios is our original starting point. Generally speaking, four slots is a good number to use as a baseline when it comes to trading up. Sometimes it's a little less, sometimes it's a little more, but four is a good guess.

If we're picking at 24, we probably can't trade higher than the 20th pick.

If we're picking at 21, we could potentially get to that 17th spot.

The normal currency to trade up is a second rounder. What do you think would be offered instead?

Mmmmmmmmm... I don't see the Rangers trading up in the draft with the 20x pick - I think they're more inclined to move it + for a young NHL ready player if there's a hockey deal to be made. I think those players, however, will command a premium given the nature of the cap in the foreseeable future.

I agree with the young NHL ready part, but think the latter part is exactly why that might not be an option right now.

And in the absence of that option, I can forsee scenarios in which the Rangers have a short list of guys they'd want to get if they fell.
